My third attempt! This time it's easier!

Hi everyone,

I am 3 weeks in to my third attempt at keto with some great results already! I’m keen to pursue this approach to food as I’ve seen some great results both now and previously, I do struggle however with consistency! I’ve found an article in which others may find beneficial in a situation similar to mine. This highlights something in which I have found to be key, which is having structure and a plan.

My three weeks this time round have been so much easier to manage with the help and assistance of a plan! I would recommend to all looking to begin they’re journey with keto!

I would appreciate any advice or input anyone has on the topic to help me and others achieve success with Keto…

Lets discuss!

I hope this new insight certainly helps you succeed this time around!

Nick, I’ve become so convenience that carbs are addictive, and when we don’t sufficiently keep them low, we’re just setting ourselves up for disaster.

A lot of people stick to the 20g a day rule, but some find they can get by with more, and not suffer any temptation to eat more; however, some people realize that 20g is still not low enough, and have to drop that, possibly even to zero.

It sounds weird to eat no carbs, but think about the fact that there are no essential carbs, only essential amino acids (protein) and fat.

I certainly wish you success this time around, but if you feel yourself struggling again, get serious about those carbs, and attack them like your life depends on it! Oh wait, it does.

I think a better challenge than a 28-day one would be the be-healthy-and-live-longer-challenge. Adopt low carb for the long haul or else your results will just be temporary.

Hope the third time is a charm for you Nick. And welcome BTW.

I’m the opposite. I don’t have a planned approach or a structure to my keto which is why it works for me because it eliminates the feeling of restriction which in turn increases my sense of sustainability. I eat what I want when I want which happens to naturally settle into a 16/8 IF. I don’t over think anything, I don’t plan out everything. I do track and measure everything to make sure I stick to my 15g carb limit however but that’s it. Its much lower pressure for me to keep it simple. My motto is go with the flow and 13 weeks in and 33lbs down it has been a good approach for me personally. I don’t put presure on myself because the stress is counterproductive for me. I threw out my short term goals and the only thing I keep is my long term goal with no time limit. The laid back approach is where I do best. “I’ll get there when I get there” plan has really improved my progress.

Having a plan may endeavour some individuals to conceptualize and visualize better their goals and where they want to be. This helps a lot for some who are struggling with changing lifestyle habits or have ingrained habits that are hard to break. It really depends on your mindset and what each individual needs in order to change for the better.

Others do better without plans or restrictions. That’s fine too.

I think it also depends on the urgency of health issues involved and I understand that some individuals don’t have the luxury not to have a plan especially if they are given shocking news by their doctors or are struggling with the outcome of any number of health issues. I’m grateful that I never had the input of medical advice or was in such a situation and so my approach has been mixed - more out of wonder and rapture than intense pressure due to failing health.

You should choose what’s right for you but most of all try and understand what’s best for your mental health too. Failure doesn’t feel good overall. Sometimes minimizing that and creating healthier expectations is more helpful than creating any number of timelines or structures. I agree that some structure is good to start but be flexible enough to forgive yourself and always have a some concept of where you want to be and how you want to live. Just my two cents.
