Hi All, I’m a newbie to the forum - 54 year old Aussie female, with the usual range of health issues for one of my vintage. It was due to these range of health issues, I decided to jump on board with Keto, beginning with a 6 day fast.
I managed to sail through it with little sense of loss of my usual bad habits. However after 24 hours into the fast, I knew Keto was going to be a game-changer for me. Firstly, before this experience I couldn’t even walk outside to my own mailbox due to my lung disease (which I’d recently been diagnosed with). However after 24 hours, I was breathing like a 12 year old! Then within the next 6 days, my long lost energy returned. (When you can’t breathe, nothing else really matters).
As a consequence of the use of a steroid inhaler to manage my COPD for the last 6 months my weight had blown out from 53kg to 72kg - shocker - I’m barely 5 foot 3 inches! Whilst my weight loss to date has not been anything to write about, what has changed is my waist measurement - down 12 centimetres in 3 weeks. Unfortunately, due to the prolonged steroid use (I had a broken rib) which when investigated by a DEXA Scan revealed I had Osteoporosis. (I wondered why my joints were so sore & aching)
However my aches & pains have now gone & my energy levels have soared. As a result I’ve joined a local gym & inside of a week (3 sessions) I’m now walking & riding (stationary bike) over 8km per session. I’ve even began to jog to a ratio of 30 seconds to every 5 minutes of walking. I’m so full of energy now its incredible.
I was unemployed & had only returned to Australia in May of this year after living in Thailand for around a year - I felt like I had not much of a future at all. All my dreams of travel were shattered. Now, my mind is clear, all the negative thoughts are gone & I’m back to (well almost) dangerous again. I’ll be starting a new job in a couple of days time - after attending 3 job interviews & receiving 3 written offers of employment.
Of course, I chose the best one in management, a great income, a company car & all the perks. So I can’t wait for the next phase of my life to now begin. I really hope this inspires others, my experience has been truly life changing. I’m looking forward to being once again an active, rather than passive participant in my grandchildren’s lives once again.
This forum stores a wealth of knowledge & experience, so take the time to read & understand some of the many benefits of Keto & remember its not just about weight loss, it’s so much more than that. Be strong, don’t overthink it & keep things simple - just the way life should be.
