My Progress As A Noob (3 Weeks In)

(*Tame Those Ghrelin Gremlins) #1

Hello my fellow ketoers. I am happy to announce that at almost 3 weeks in my appetite is under good control.

I now only feel hungry usually around dinner time. For me, I get most all my calories and numbers in during this time and happily go about the rest of my day.

It feels great not being chained to a carb life. I’m not sure if this means I’m fat adapted yet since I’m only into week three.

As far as the scale, after the initial water weight drop it stayed at the same number for 10 days. I did not worry I only took down the numbers for science and though nothing more.

This morning (about a week later) I weighed in at 4 pounds less! That means 4 pounds of fat! small? I know, but a huge accomplishment for me. I know I’m not adapted enough to fast more than 24 hours so I will let that happen naturally.

I think I’m ready to get back out to the gym. I did want to thank everyone here with all their knowledge, if it wasn’t for y’all I wouldn’t of understood the process.

It was your knowledge and guidance that has helped me this far. It is also my new forever home. Keto has changed my life, and I think of it as a lifestyle not a diet. :cut_of_meat:

To all the other newbies I say please give it a try, to stick with it even if the scale is stubborn. (The scale is only a part of the bigger puzzle)

Congratulations! Looks like you’re coming at this with a great attitude and patience. As far as fasting goes, remember that it is a great tool, but only a tool and not a required one. If you do it and get benefit from it, fantastic! If not, no problem.

Often, the clock stimulates what we perceive to be hunger when it’s more like an expectation to eat. I say this because when I was experimenting with extended fasting, dinner time was the most difficult and I thought I was hungry, but a few hours after it passed, the apparent hunger was gone. I’m not suggesting you should or need to fast. I’m just saying this is how I learned to understand the difference between true hunger and clock hunger.

Yes it’s very liberating to not be a slave to our hormones for sure.

It’s not likely, but not impossible that you are fat adapted already but you are certainly well on your way.

Your wisdom contradicts your claim to be a noob. Congrats on your success so far. It’s only the beginning.

I agree with the mind trick that time displays. I am learning in this way too. Around 1 ( was my normal lunch)

I get my mind saying, hey…eat some food it’s lunch! I ignored it because my stomach was not rumbling so to me it was false. An hour later it went away and I was onto the next project of the day.

Also I call myself a noob as would most because of my small amount of time on Keto. I love knowledge and absorb it like a sponge so yes it may seem like a contradiction but I mean it only in knowledge, not in execution.

Most excellent to read. This is a great reference post for neophytes to low-carb living.

RE: Going back to the gym. You may suffer in the energy department when you return. It was three months before I felt fat adapted and fully able use fat for fuel on my runs.

I planned on just walking an incline for a mile or two, nothing major. :grinning:

Update: I weighed in again now at 168…it’s been a few years since I have seen the 160’s but I’m loving the energy. I still haven’t found that perfect dose of electrolytes that makes me feel optimal, still a bit of a learning curve . I’m on my first fast without trying, haven’t eaten since yesterday morning.

Try focusing on adding more salt. I’ve tried the magnesium and potassium supplements. However, Dr. Westman said; “Don’t believe all that stuff out there, just increase your salt. You’ll be fine.”

He was right.
