My incentive is now a big boy and turns 1 today. This picture was taken the day we picked him up. He now weighs in at 95 pounds and his back is too high for me to straddle him. I am 5’6" gained about 15 more pounds after this picture and have lost 13 since starting keto a little over 2 weeks ago. I plan on some long hikes with Schultz and his big brother Gus in the white mountains of NH come spring time. Going to also do a liver detox

Oh Vicki … you must post picks of you and Schultzs in the White Mountains. Please! Please with no stinking sugar on top … just butter!

I just cant leave this one alone.
I grew up in Western Mass and spent quite a bit of time in NH. My grandfather was a professor of entomology at UMass Amherst and we spent a lot of time doing field work in the White Mountains. Papa even described a species of plecoptera that he had discovered in the Lake of the Clouds.
As a family, we also have dogs and I have been thinking about getting mine own dog again.
Please do post pictures. I am sure they will bring back many happy memories.

Richard
Oh I will post many pictures especially the NEW ME! And Giant Schnauzers are a wonderful breed! I work from home, so they are with me literally 24/7
My husband has never had a dog before, I had to put my last Giant Schnauzer down before I met him. So, there were two males and a female left when we went and I told him I want a male. So, I liked the other male, and my husband said well this one has a goatee, and I said well I like this one, he kept saying well this one likes me, look he keeps following me.
But, you pick it is going to be your dog. But look this one really likes me… SO since he had never had a dog before we brought home Schultz who I wanted to name Claude, and guess who picked out the name Schultz? But, I love him to death and could not be happier with the pick, and when we adopted Gus, his full brother from a different litter in May because he needed to be re-homed, my husband officially got his very own first dog, and he is smitten. He always says “I never knew I would enjoy having a dog this much”.
Great personal story, thanks for sharing.
In my greener years, when I was a bachelor, I had a Golden Retriever and we did everything together for many wonderful years. Lots of trips, camping, vacations … and we did obedience trial. AKC Stormy CD, CDX.
When I met my wife Stormy was already about ten years old and I had to put him down at thirteen when he could no longer walk.
I had the future Mrs. Hanson over to my apartment, but she had already met Stormy several times. I got him to show off for her, different tricks and obedience work on hand signals and I had one last trick. Not my idea, but from a joke I had heard.
Me: Stormy can take your clothing off.
Susi: The hell he can!
Me: Yes … he can do that …
Susi: No!
Me: He needs the practice …
Susi: … ohh … OK …
Me: Stormy … take her clothes off …
Me: Stormy … Take Her Clothes off …
Me: Stormy … CLOTHES OFF …
Me: OK … I will show you one more time.
I am convinced that Mrs. Hanson only married me because she loved my dog. He was my best possible character witness.
This was a long time ago but I think I am ready for a dog again.

).
Hi Vicki,
I bought a dog today, or more accurately, I bought a future dog today as the mating has not happened yet. If all goes well, we should get the puppy in the spring and I have a lot to learn between now and then. Two of my children already have dogs so I will have victims to practice training before the puppy arrives.
Life is good and precocious and worth living extremely well.
Keto for Life!
Warmest Regards,
Richard
The puppy will be a German Shepard Dog from a Czech working blood line, a Pohranicni Straze line. We will be training him/her as a diabetic alert dog, a D.A.D. as my Mrs. Hanson is a T1D and I was a T2D. We have first pick and will be selecting for temperament, drive, the suitability for a working life as a service dog.
These GSDs are a bit on the smaller side but with many generations of great health including no hip dysplasia and a long history of high performance work with the Chech military.
Susi has been interested in having a D.A.D. in the family for a long time.
This is the future Mom. She is incredible sweet and full of energy.
We will both have German dogs.
Das ist gut!

Warmest Regards,
Richard
THAT is awesome! Do you watch the show Lucky Dog? We are watching the reruns we just watched an episode where Brandon (McMillan the trainer and who the show is about) was asked by a man in Florida to train a dog for his wife who has Alzheimer’s he finally found the right dog in a shelter a GSD cross and trained her to bring the eoman home if she gets confused, she was also trained to a certain ringtone on the woman’s cell phone if her husband has not heard from her for a while and gets worried the dog will take her home
Shame on me … I don’t watch hardly any television except a few shows with Mrs. Hanson.
Winter is coming!
I will see if I can find Lucky Dog!
