My First Fast.. God damn you shark week

An accountability post.

I am on week 10 of Keto and decided to do my first fast of 24 hours.
My last meal was at 9:50pm and it was a fat bomb, I’m almost 11 hours into the fast.
I have mentally prepared myself for it for a few days, asking questions on how to prepare.
I haven’t really done much except buy soda water, stock up on peppermint tea (even though I don’t like it I am hoping I can learn to). I will make a broth soon enough but I hear there’s a trick to that but that’s another post for another day. I think today I will pretty much survive on ketoaide/soda water and espresso/black tea.

Since starting Keto I had lost my period, but funnily enough I woke up this morning and ta-da. Hello shark week. I am a wee bit anxious about that as I know we get hungrier at this time so hopefully I can just battle through that. I think I will be okay.

I have notoriously low ketone blood readings and my weight has pretty much stalled since I lost water weight so this will be an exciting experiment.

The other day I skipped lunch and my ketone readings were at 0.7mmol in the evening which was the highest i’ve seen them.

I tested at 9:20 this morning and so far;
BG 5.2mmol
Ketone 0.2mmol

Not sure if these are dawn readings, I will test again around lunch time when I go buy more glucose strips.

On the bright side, it’s awesome you got your period back! Good luck with the fast! I think the “trick” to the broth is to add some ACV bc it helps get nutrients out of the bones. I just make regular broth bc ACV grosses me out.

I’ve read a lot of the recipes and people mention cooking the bones first for awhile etc so I think I just need to find a really good quality recipe and go from there :slight_smile:

So my results so far…

9:20am - Ketone 0.2mmol / BG 5.2
11:30am - Ketone 0.3mmol / BG 5.0

I ran out of glucose test strips dammit

Ketones at 4:20 - 0.8mmol

I broke my stall! WOO!
Fasted for 24 hours and lost 1.3kg which put me at 72.9, put on another 0.5kg during refeeding, even had some potato and apple pie! It was just a dash tho, probably 30 carbs max.
Fasted again for most of Sunday and ate my OMAD at 8pm.
Woke up again this morning Monday and weighed again and back down to 72.9kg.
The highest ketone reading I had during the fast was 1.0mmol at 23 hours, but I did not test right before I broke my fast.
I am fasting again today, it is suprisingly easy! I am not thinking about food at all and I’ve gotten used to drinking espresso straight up.
Though strangely, this morning I had one espresso and tested my blood glucose at 9:15am and it was 6.2…
I am getting higher ‘pre diabetic’ readings in the mornings the longer I stay on Keto.
I don’t quite understand that yet.

Keep up the good work, don’t be concerned with what the measurements are saying - focus on how you feel.

Honestly i’m just taking the blood meter readings for shits and giggles right now
It has never been my intention to chase numbers
I was getting consistently low ketone readings before hand so I wanted to see what would happen when I started fasting, now I know, it’s the secret to success lol.
