My fasting experience

#21

At about 43 hours at the moment and no significant issues - drinking plenty of water and getting electrolytes. I had some MCT about 8 hours ago when I woke up.

My blood glucose (BG) and blood ketones (BK) for a Glucose:Ketone Index (GKI) is the lowest (best) ratio I’ve seen since I started tracking!

BG 3.0 mmol/l (55 mg/dL)
BK 4.8 mmol/l
GKI 0.6

Awesome @BillJay!! Way to go. Not much longer either. Thanks for the update. Great numbers!!

I made it to 62 hours before I broke the fast and that was just because it’s normally the day and time I have breakfast at some local restaurant - I could’ve easily kept going, so next week I might start the feasting earlier so I can make it a 72 hour fast.

this might sound crazy, and I’m only doing IF, not longer fasts, but I’ve found the Zero app on my phone to be ridiculously helpful. I see the time ticking away and don’t want it to stop by eating something. So I don’t. So far it’s worked for the 20 hour neighborhood. Not sure if it will have the same effect on longer fasts.

Interesting phenomenon with the app.

i really like the Zero app…i wish i’d started the timer or could even remember what time i last ate…i was doing tax silliness so i’m not in my right mind lol :expressionless:

I’m so happy for yu!! And thanks for being an inspiration!

(Gibby) #28

You inspired me. I saw your post, and I decided it was time to go for it. I am about 48 hours in…I know it’s small, but it feels good to make a positive start.

(Michelle) #29

Woot Woot!! Love that you just dived in. I think that’s the best way. And 48 hours is GREAT!! Have to start somewhere. GOOD LUCK on your fast. Keep us posted on your experience.

I love this community. I have been inspired so many, and everyone sharing their individual experiences is so helpful.

Did you measure blood glucose, ketones, and blood pressure? I did last month when I did a 85 hr fast. Interesting to watch the rate that glucose goes down and ketones go up.

BTW I got so cold that I would have quit sooner except for judicial use of an electric blanket.

(Michelle) #31

I measured glucose and ketones, but only a few times. Seemed like everything was tracking correctly so didn’t want to waste the test strips!!

So cold… brrrr

(Mercy Baron) #32

So glad you’re all doing it so I DON’T HAVE TO!! Lol.

Take an epson salt bath - it will warm you right up!

IKR?

Exactly!!! That’s what I do at night before bed. Sit in steaming hot Epsom bath. Then, get into PJs and straight into bed. Really helps when fasting.

I’m starting an extended fast tomorrow. (Well, I guess technically I started 2 hours ago. LOL) My first planned one. Hope I do as well as you!

Increase your salt intake: 4-6 g/ day (2-3 teaspoons) of Himalayan PinkSea Salt or Celtic Salt or Real Salt as these all have lots of minerals in them.

(Michelle) #38

good luck!!!

Thank you!
