Hello all,
Before I started on Keto, I thought I should get some baseline numbers drawn. From the results below, and what I recall in the podcasts, it all looks pretty good! I haven’t been diagnosed with diabetes, and I’m only “slightly” overweight (230lb and 6’0 tall).
However, I do recall in one of the podcasts, The Dudes were saying there was a test that you could get that could be a predictor, 10 yrs early, of diabetes and insulin resistance. Does that sound familiar? Is it covered in this panel below? Or do I need to ask for a specific test?
Also, any particular observations or comments are welcome.
Thanks!

My bloodwork numbers
The last test is better than most tests for insulin, but it’s not quite the same…
That sucks they didn’t also do insulin. Those are still great blood sugar numbers, though. For comparison, mine were 99 (5.5) and 119 (6.6) (before and after 2 hours, respectively). My HbA1c was 5.0. (insulin values were 10.3 and 41.3, before and at 2 hours, respectively).
I would definitely ask for a fasting insulin. Just got my tests back. After almost 8 months of keto way of life My blood sugar numbers are great and hbA1c is 4.8. I wasn’t diabetic to begin with. However, my insulin level is 12.7 so my HOMA-IR says I am borderline highly insulin resistance. I am
Hoping in another year it will be lower.
I’d be careful with fasting insulin. It’s only a snapshot. I’ve had insulin values from “<3” (that’s what it said) to above 33 (normal fasting value), all while low carb/keto. In fact, the highest fasting insulin i got was when I was fasting a lot *(but ate for a few days before the test), and got my lowest HbA1c.
These are my values.
The 1/20/18 was supposed to be an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test with insulin, before, after 1 hour, and after 2 hours. They only did the before and the 2 hour. All of this is while low carb/keto.When I got the 33, I was so shocked (was fasting a ton before this test), that after going on vacation, I got another test…and my insulin went down. Strange.
