My birthday is next month. I'll be 69

Hi! I’m new to the forum but not so new to KETO . I was diagnosed with with T2D in 2008 and prescribed Metformin and pushed out of the VA Clinic’s door. No counseling what so ever. I figured I’d take the pills and hope for the best.

I retired in 2012 and began to drive a school bus to fund my hobbies. The US DOT requires that all Commercial Drivers pass a physical test to drive a commercial vehicle. Because I have T2D I need to get a physical annually. In 2011 for some reason I decided I felt better and stopped taking my Metformin. Bad move. I failed my next physical because my BG level was 300!!! I got an AIC test and it was 11.1. Yikes!!! I immediately went back on the meds and after 3 months of diet and light exercise I was able to get my A1C down to around 8 and go back to work.

I watched my diet a bit and got my weight down to around 225 from a high of 250. I’m 6’2" so I never looked heavy to friends and family but I felt pretty bad overall health-wise. So, for about 2 years I really did nothing about getting better. My FBG hovered around 130 to 150 and my AIC hovered between 7 and 8. I wasn’t getting better. I had resigned myself to eventual blindness, amputation, and dialysis because, as we all know, T2D is irreversible.

I went to the VA on October 11 2017 for a physical. My FBG on that date was 167, weight clocked in at 248 AIC 8.6. All my other blood work was equally awful. I had dabbled with Atkins in the past and thought I’d try it again. I did some searching on the Net and discovered Keto.

I have rigorously followed a 75% Fat 20% Protein 5% Carb (<20g) Keto diet and here’s where I am today;

Weight: 184,
FBG this AM 86,
AIC 5.1.
Waist size 44 > 36.

I feel great.

That’s a great story. We have a progress thread around here somewhere with similar stories. Glad to have you on the forum and happy early bday.

I wish I had done this earlier in my life. Oh well, too soon old, too late smart.
