Muscle Soreness - Taking a Poll

(What The Fast?!) #1

Hi all! I’ve heard that on a ketogenic diet, muscle soreness is reduced after exercise/strength training. I haven’t experienced this - my soreness is the same as before - and I’m curious to learn about others’ experiences. If you worked out before and after keto, please take this poll!

  • My muscles are less sore since starting keto
  • My muscles are more sore since starting keto
  • No difference in my muscle soreness since starting keto

Take salt or magnesium…

Definitely more sore. I started Jan 15 so I’m still becoming adapted and I’m still learning what my body needs as far as salts and electrolytes. Its getting better every week.

I was getting really bad DOMS until I increased salt, now leg day just hurts for 24 hours (and much less) instead of six days.

A good post workout is always a smart idea if your weight training, keto or not. The reality that people dont like coming to terms with is that we DO put ourselves at a disadvantage in the muscle building department always running with near no glycogen stores. Ive had no issues building muscle on keto, I’d also recommend a cassein protein shake at night right before bed. Stay away from Whey Protein unless you know it won’t screw with you. It IS awesome for helping building muscle but can be insulinogenic for some. Even if it is for you that may not be a bad thing, but that’s very person specific and your end goals and workouts dictate a lot of that. I see a lot of salt recommendations, well, that’s not doing anything after you murder your muscles at the gym. Magnesium can help a little with pain after the fact, but that’s not your issue, it’s prolonged recovery.

No difference really here in the 4 months I’ve been doing keto. I had minor back pain here and there before and I still do now.
