Multi-Vitamin with Corn Starch?

(Oded Shopen) #1

Hi,

Just ordered the following Multi-Vitamin:

http://il.iherb.com/p/40396

Only after ordering (and having the shipment on the way), I noticed that the ingredients contain corn starch.

Is that the sort of thing I would expect to find in any multi-vitamin or is it rare? I would really like not to take any additional carbs unless I really have to. I know it’s just one pill per day, but still.

Any other thoughts about this product are also welcomed, I mainly chose it because it has 1000 IU of Vitamin D which is important to me. I’m taking Potassium Citrate using another supplement (http://il.iherb.com/p/13061).

Thanks!

Sadly, not rare at all. A good many supplements use starch to provide bulk.

It may not be enough to worry about too much, but I do still try to avoid it by reading labels carefully before purchase.

Still get bitten from time to time.

That’s a bummer…

Anything you can recommend from the items on that website? I’m pretty limited to websites with international shipping.

Sorry, not familiar with the website, and I don’t have time to look. Your best bet is to find a site that provides the shipping you need and also has photos of the ingredient listing available. That’s what I look for when I order from Amazon, for example.

This isn’t from the iherb website, but we have just ordered the new multi vitamin from jimmy Moore and Doc Nally. They have shipped to Australia. It is pretty expensive, but definitely has vitamin D in it. We haven’t started taking it yet. Can report back once we have been using for a few months.

These are some gluten and starch free vitamins. Most in this brand are celiac-safe. The cellulose is plant fiber and is undigestible. They do have (very small) traces of soy.

These vitamin D pills don’t have corn or soy.

Anything in the Bio-Tech brand is typically low in carbs, gluten-free and corn-free.

Solgar also makes very high quality stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Formula-Multinutrient-VM-2000-Tablets/dp/B0001VUN46/

I don’t think they ship to Austrailia yet but here is another to consider:
