Trust me on this! the grass is greener on the other side. I also had the worst transition period of my life, evry side effect in the book hit me :stuck_out_tongue: just remember salt, getting enough fat is critical!, and than magnesium and potassium and foods like brokoly or avacoda vil give you kalium. keep going, you will learn more with time, and it gets better after a couple of weeks i promis

All normal for me. 2-3 weeks of any major change in diet or exercise routine can cause an ā€œemotional detoxā€ also energy for exercise can stay low until adapted so don’t stress too much about that. Try stick to butter, cooking oils and fish primarily until your GERD quiets down. Also lemon water helps as well as probiotics and digestive enzymes.

And get away from seed oils. Lard, tallow. Avocado coconut and olive are the only okay vegetable oils

I’m glad that you’re still here, and still sticking with it! I’ve found that right around 4 weeks was my ā€œmoment of truthā€¦ā€ in a way. Depending on what is going on with your body, it might take a while to see results. I’ll hit 6 weeks tomorrow and I know that my body is still fixing itself while I’m just wishing there were more scale results. I picture it telling me to chill out, that I’ve done a lot of damage for a lot of years, that it is working on the inside first… it helps, weirdly

Hang in there! I’m sorry that you’re feeling down. I think anytime we make a big life change, emotions can get in the way as we adjust. And missing out on those exercise endorphins must be frustrating. It’s probably a combination of everything- stress, new way of life, lack of exercise. All of that contributes, and all of it has an effect on how you are feeling emotionally. Is there anything (other than negative coping skills) that makes you feel happy right now? Also… another consideration… my menstrual cycle messes with me in a BIG way. Symptoms have been reduced since starting keto, but these hormones are no joke. Depending on where you are in that cycle, weight loss and emotional responses can be seriously impacted.

I’m curious about your username. Are you a teacher?

I am not a teacher, I just thought it was a fun name!

Since starting keto I’ve definitely noticed my mood take a dive. I feel like my anxiety is higher and my general state of mental control is lower. Things that stress me out stress me out MUCH more and I feel like Ive been an emotional puddle. But I dont want to give up because I feel like I need to just stick it through and come out on the other side.

This weekend is the first family holiday since I started keto and Im going prepared to make good keto choices as best as I can! I will be bringing a yummy salad with a raspberry vinaigrette I found on Ruled.me and also probably bring my own Keto friendly dessert so Im not tempted by all the bunny shaped cakes and treats.

Last year I ran my first triathlon and I signed up for it again this year (only a harder version) and Im very very eager to continue my training so being held back from the gym due to energy levels is also making me feel down.

Anxiety is actually quite common early on. I started taking kava and astragalus.

I tried taking some medication for depression and anxiety a long while ago to treat my SAD but they ended up making me feel worse. Vitamin D helped me a lot and maybe its a mix of Keto and mild SAD. Either way, I feel crummy! :pensive:

This weekend I felt like I had some big moments…well big little moments.

There were a couple days where I WASNT hungry during times when I know Id normally be craving something. Im wondering if that is just an anomaly or if that is another step in the transition process.

I also went out to eat with some friends and I stay pretty close to my Keto restrictions but you never know. I got hibachi from a sushi place which was just meat and veggies with soy sauce but it tasted sweet? I dont know. I ate it anyway.

I still havent seen the scale budge since week 1 water weight and Im trying not to let that get me down cause I know its not an instant thing. I should set aside some time to measure myself and use that as a means to track because I AM doing this to lose weight and get healthier.

How’s this for catch 22? Worrying about it will make it worse? Worrying creates stress, stress raises cortisol, cortisol realesed glucose, glucose raises insulin, insulin prevents fat burning, not seeing the fat reduction causes us to worry about it more. :persevere:

So after going from 245 pounds to 205 pounds in my first two weeks of Keto, I held it there for months. Nothing I could do made a difference. Then I quit trying, quit worrying about it. I quit eating less, and went ahead and ate a full meal. Easily 2,000 calories for the day in my IF feeding window. And wishing just a few days I lost another 5 pounds. At which point I began trying at it again. And my weight just stalled at that point, staying at 200 pounds +/- about 2 pounds. It was crazy, my weight would change 2 pounds everyday, going from 200 to 202, 200, 198, 200, all in the same week. I think most of that was dependent on the amount of water I drank those days, but maddening non the less.

After about a month of that I just quit trying to lose weight. As in I stopped taking action to make it happen. Now I just let it happen. I don’t worry about it. I just do the dishes things I have control over to help keep insulin low. Feeding Windows small, like 4 hour windows. As close to zero carb as I possibly can, single digits always. And I’ve begun to reap the benefits from that. About 3 weeks ago I broke the 200 pound hurdle, and the new one was 195. Earlier this week I was at 197, but today I was 193. The lowest I have weighed in close to 20 years.

Whenever I get bummed about hitting a weight plateau I just think how long it took me to get to that weight, and how quickly I’ve really been losing it now. So far, it’s been about 4 months, and I’ve lost 52 pounds, reversed my diabetes, and have one helluva story to tell. So don’t give up. Don’t stress. Just Keep calm and… well, you know the rest :cowboy_hat_face:

FYI @MissSimon

I broke my plateau. I’m now down to 192 pounds as of this morning. It’s a downward trend, so I will continue to do as I have been doing the past week or so. Same style of food, time of eating, and amount of food. I’m neither hungry nor stuffed. And most of all, I won’t worry about it. I’ll just let it happen.

I tried my first attempts at intermittent fasting and it made me feel pretty awful. Whats worse is that I think ive triggered the keto rash. Fairly mild, but my skin itches!

Ive decided to stop fasting and see if I can get the itching to go away. :frowning:
Its really disheartening to know that one of the only cures for the rash is to hope it goes away or increase your carbs.

In the last Obesity Code episode, Megan Ramos gives a keto rash protocol that she says works for most of the IDM patients who get the rash.
