I recently had an appointment with an obesity specialist (found her on the Physician’s Network on the IDM Program’s website). Upon reviewing my latest lab work, which indicated a fasting insulin of 20, she recommended that I go back on metformin; this is the only glucose medication I am on. It’s only been a week since I started back on it, so I’m wondering how long I can expect to be on it before I see any results in my glucose readings…if any. My morning glucose numbers are still quite high even after a year of Keto/IF…but…my HbA1c is 5.9. The next time I will be getting lab work done is in October for my 6 month diabetes check so I’ll get my fasting insulin retested then; however, I was hoping for a little help in the dawn sugar readings with Metformin. Am I expecting too much, too soon?
Metformin - but BG is still high in a.m

If your HbA1C is lower in October, it would probably mean that you are fine, despite the glucose readings. If you happen to know it’s already trending downward, so much the better.
Is dawn phenomenon really of concern? The posts I read that mention it seem to be taking the position that it’s not, but I might not be reading them correctly. In any case, I haven’t read any posts saying that if one has dawn phenomenon, one should do thus-and-so. They only suggest taking a reading at some other time of day, so as not to worry oneself.
Also, isn’t glucose sparing something we need to take into account, after a year in ketosis?
