Measure ketones

(chad) #1

Ok so from reading threw the forum I think it’s best to use a blood reading to check your ketones. But which ones are best?

Also how often should i be checking my ketones and or glucose?

What is the best time to check?

I’ve used the Keto Mojo, Precision Xtra, and Nova Max plus. They’re all fine. I think the Keto Mojo is probably your best bet, pricing wise, for strips. But, I haven’t researched this lately so your results may vary.

Ketone readings tend to be lower in the mornings, but there is no “best” time to check. Your blood ketone levels will vary due to the following factors:

  1. what you eat
  2. what you ate
  3. your activity level
  4. your inactivity level
  5. time of day you test
  6. time of night you test
  7. completely random, unexplainable reasons, over which one should not fret, and just KCKO.

Chase results, not ketones as they say.

That being said, I check my ketones every day or every other day, usually late in the afternoon for no other reason than to see what effect certain foods may have on me, or to act as quasi-validation that “the reason my brain and mood feel great right now is because I’m reading 2.1 mmoL. Cool, I’ll keep this up.”

whatever time you test make sure and do it at the same time everytime to get consistent readings. I do mornings. Once you get into ketosis and know what you’re doing you dont need to check ketones that often. I would check glucose daily though since they are cheap.
