MCT oil vs. coconut oil?

Anyone have any personal evidence of one or the other being better for weight-loss or energy? I always dismissed the notion of MCT oil since I figured coconut oil was the same thing - but MCT oil is concentrated MCTs whereas coconut oil is only about 65% MCTs. I guess MCT oil disolves better in drinks since it’s liquid, but I’m curious as to any other benefits.

Any reason to pick up some MCT oil? Has anyone gone from coconut oil to MCTs and discovered a noticeable helath benefit?

thanks!

MCT is very hit and miss for me but when it’s hit it’s definitely a noticeable physical and mental energy boost. Also the brand I get seems identical to the one that is double the price.

Coconut oil fits my definition of real food. MCT oil does not. It is an engineered blend of coconut and palm oils.

Not all of them, many are 100% coconut oil derived.

MCT doesn’t mix in to drinks, you have to blend it. I prefer it to coconut oil as it doesn’t smell/taste of coconuts.

MCT can upset your stomach badly though if you’re not used to it and you eat too much.

Edit: I’ve only ever bought MCT that’s made from Coconut oil.

MCTs are easier for cold drinks, coconut for hot drinks. Only difference I’ve noticed.

Where are you seeing MCT oil with Palm in it?

MCT ( a good one) is better, but there is nothing wrong with Coconut oil either. If you want more of an energy boost from it a good C8 chain MCT oil will beat the Coconut Oil every time. Make sure you but a quality MCT oil if you do. Some budget ones are garbage… and taste like it to! I use both regularly and the only noticeable difference is the energy boost. But as others have said, you gotta get your system used to MCT Oil slowly in many cases. If not, it’ll show you how gravity works!

Side note - mct in my coffee gives the exact same result as taking my adhd medication.

That reminds me, it does seem to increase my heart rate.

Interesting. I have read that MCTs have a thermogenesis effect in the liver. I might have to give some a try. Maybe just a couple tablespoons in the AM or something.

I suggest just giving a good quality MCT Oil a try and see if it works for you. I do notice a difference between MCT and Coconut Oil. It seems like a quicker, more noticeable energy boost (not so much like an energy drink…but a boost nonetheless). I want to preface my next comment with the fact that I have VERY LIMITED knowledge and experience in Keto. I have only been Keto for about three months. In my opinion, I am not sure if MCT is really much different than sugar. Your body burns it off first. To me, coconut oil seems to metabolize a bit different and gives me, albeit not as noticeable of a boost, a longer lasting boost of energy. I could be completely wrong in this matter and I hope I haven’t said anything out of place. But this is my experience. But as it is repeated over and over again…we are all different and we all have to find what works for us. Good luck!

Please. I can handle my fats
For real though; I’m gonna give it a try. This is all very interesting to me. I saw it in Walmart the other day (they have a couple brands, around $10-14 per bottle) but didn’t have the extra cash at the time. When I get paid I’mma give it a go.

I really appreciate everyone’s input here. I’m well aware, after being keto for about a month and a half, that 90% of this is n=1 unsubstantiated by clinical trials “bro science” - and I’m okay with that. it’s working crazy good for me!

I started making my BPC in 2016 with Coconut Oil. Then I transitioned to Bulletproof Brain Octane MCT Oil for about six months in 2017. For me, I didn’t see any difference in my energy, health or weight loss, just a bigger difference in my bank account. So I went back to Organic Coconut Oil. But… each human is different.

I have been using LevelUp Pure C-8 Clean MCT oil. The stuff is great and only C-8. I buy it off of Amazon and it goes on sale, or promo every so often. Read some of the reviews. The stuff just works.
