Good luck my friend!

(Teresa (turtle)) #202

@rustyk61 Thanks so much! I’ll need all the luck I can get! I am scheduled to work tomorrow from 11pm to Saturday 7am running around a headlight production factory when I normally sit at a desk job on the day shift. My hope is to break the fast after that with some macadamia nuts. However with the amount of hustling I will have to do answering machine alarms I may have to have those macs at work. Sunday my 18 year old son is treating me to lunch and a movie!

Can not give this post enough :sparkling_heart::two_hearts:

(Liz ) #204

Thank you! It was reading endless forum posts that got me through the most frustrating times so I know how important it is to share what we can.

Hour 52. On Facebook and suddenly realized I was reading recipes and seeing ads for keto foods. Yikes! Hunger alert! Only 20 hours to go and I can sleep for 8 of them. I can do this.

General question, i’m only 12 days in.

When you are entirely fat adapted, are the fasts easy? I see people having 3 day fasts and I wonder if you think about food at all in that time and if it’s a real challenge? Or you simply don’t eat because you are not hungry and it’s almost a game to see how long you can go?

#207

I’m a newbie too- 8 weeks in. Not sure that I’m fully fat adapted yet; I still get hungry! I have been doing ADF for 8 months though, so not a newb to fasting- I would say it varies for people & even for fasts. Sometimes I find fasting really easy, & then another day it’s a real struggle. But I have gone from 24 hours to then 36 , to 42 & now 48 with no more problem than the 24 hours. It is something I would say is easier if you build up gradually.
If you look @Shortstuff Allie’s posts above, you’ll see even experienced fasters/ ketoers find some fasts harder.
PS for some people the hunger doesn’t go away even when you’re fat adapted, I’ve read, & have a sneaky feeling I might be one of those people…

Thanks for the response

Hunger decreases significantly once you’re adapted which makes fasting way easier generally. I’m fairly certain it’s my current stress levels that are making this fast more difficult.

Still unsure how I’ll be proceeding today. Currently approaching 37 hours and have brought food into work with me in case needed.

(Allie) #210

Made it to 38 hours but done now. I’m freezing cold and drinking warm water wasn’t helping :frowning:

(Lisa F) #211

Some of it floats back up but most stays mixed in. I use a Nutribullet (though need to take care about the hot liquids). Adding a bit of almond milk seems to help keep the oils emulsified. Plus it helps add a bit of calcium if you are dairy free and that’s a concern.

(Mother of Puppies ) #212

Hour 37 of my third ADF for the week. (A record🎉)

Water handled the hunger, but I’m at the gym and exhausted prematurely. Taking salt now.

(Lisa F) #213

Good luck @Knapper88! I’m the same age and height as you and finished an 81 hr fast yesterday morning…dropped from 163 to just above 161. The 150s are soooo close!!! You can do this!

(Lisa F) #214

This is so me! During fasting I get obsessed with food so I start hunting for recipes for after the fast is over but then I realize I’m also being triggered. I seem to be following a ton of Keto cooking pages on FB…

(Teresa (turtle)) #215

Thank you Lisa! Hour 79 here, I woke up to a weight of 161.8, woo hoo! 150’s here I come (I hope)!

(Lisa F) #216

Love it! Btw I also have an 18 year old son…I think I need to casually mention your lunch and movie date and see if I can spark some motivation there…

(Teresa (turtle)) #217

Ha, ha! Yeah, I messaged him a few days ago. Last year he took me to see a movie starring Amy Schumer. So I mentioned how there is another Amy Schumer movie out that we could go see on “my day” if that would work for him. :slightly_smiling_face:

Just approaching the 62 hour mark. Planning on taking this to Monday (that’ll be 6 days). Why not 7? I have a roast in the sous vide that I started yesterday…I think more than 4 days may just make it too tender.
Next time I’ll likely target a 7 day fast and plan my refeed meal a bit better.

You indeed do think about food. The thinking is usually the deal, too - unless one is really lean, with not much in the way of fat reserves, then the body isn’t going to be clamoring too hard for food. All our inner compulsions, cravings, vulnerabilities and rationalizations are in play.

I’m bored (and not eating gives you even more time to be bored).

Well, I wanted to be polite… Somebody offered me food, didn’t want to turn them down.

I have a headache. Not saying to totally ignore what your body is telling you, yet sometimes you’ll just need a little bit of salt. That will make you feel better. (Of course, so would taking over the local bakery, barricading yourself within and locking everybody else out. “Top o’ the world, Ma!”)

Because I needed comforting.

The samples were free. There was a two-for-one sale. I’d never had these before and they’d be more expensive next week.

It was breakfast time. It was lunchtime. It was dinnertime. I looked at the clock; next thing your know I’m eating. Our hunger hormones rise and fall, usually around 8 times per day. To an extent, it’s also a learned response - if we are used to eating at certain times of the day, our hunger hormones will increase in anticipation.

It was a special occasion. Well, other people were eating… Didn’t want to be anti-social. Sophie was retiring and there was an enormous cake. I only had one big piece of it.

Because the food was there.

Because I needed something to look forward to today.

You know, I might be getting deficient in such-and-such vitamin. If I eat, I’ll get some of it.

Pretty sure I starved in a past life.

made it through my 48 hours (fat fasting with HWC and bone broth). Ate last night and still feel full and stuffed this morning. ugh. The fasting is starting to feel easier than the feasting.
