Years ago I was tutoring a young boy. His family asked me to help him as he was struggling to learn what he needed for his first holy communion.

I think this was the prayer: I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee.

He recited: I am hardly sorry…

I was tempted not to correct him.

A good mantra

A girlfriend of many years ago was doing her teacher training by observing a catholic primary school class. At one point the teacher asked, “What is another name for God?” to which one of the boys replied, “Harold”. When the teacher asked for clarification, the boy said “We say it every morning at prayer, 'Our father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name.”

Priceless.
