March 2025 Intermittent/Extended Fasting - all welcome

(Jane) #1

I am starting a 72-hr fast after lunch today.

KCFO!

20 hours in and doing ok. Had a wave of hunger pass over me around our normal dinner time but a cup of black coffee with some salt fixed that. No hunger this morning. I will check my glucose and ketones around 10:30 this morning to see what’s going on internally.

Salt does seem to work well.

A little over 45 hours in on my 72-hr fast - will break after lunch tomorrow so on the downhill stretch! No hunger this morning and playing with my new Keto Mojo I am enjoying the numbers I am seeing while fasting. These were taken a few minutes ago.

Glucose: 80
Ketones: 2.6
GKI: 1.7

Did you sign up for the cloud-based storage of data (for the Keto Mojo)? Or do you just take your data (which is what I do)?

(Jane) #6

I use their app and it syncs with my Keto Mojo and shows all the data, graphs, etc.

54 hours in and no hunger today and I stayed busy at work on my computer plus took breaks and worked in my garden. I will mini-break in the morning with stevia and a splash of cream in my coffee, then eat my first meal at 11:00.

Glucose: 85
Ketones: 3.5
GKI: 1.3

I won’t test again as these will likely be my best numbers. Was interesting to be testing again after 4 years or so of not testing.

Well, my results for March haven’t been as good as I wanted. I stopped my resistance training about 2 wks ago, because I felt I had strained my abdomen. Then I proceeded to go off keto pretty fast, and gained about 5 pounds right away. However, it seems I am already losing some of that, and am back down. So, I have been all over the fricking place it seems this month. Tommorrow morning I plan to see what my scale says about my muscle vs fat. Last I looked, I had peaked out my muscle mass to match my highest level, but it seems to drop back off a pound or 2 once I quit training. If I maintain even a 3 pound muscle gain this year, I will be happy… errrrr.

44 hrs into a 48hr fast , I had a weekend of carbs so this’ll offset that hopefully!

Well, my smart scale readings are a little confusing. Overall, I am 4 pounds less than I weighed the same time last year. It says my fat free body weight is down 1.6 pounds from the peak last year. It says my muscle mass is down 1.6 pounds from the peak last year, but about 1 lb from the same time last year. It is up 2.2 pounds since this last fall… sigh. It says my overall fat percentage is down 0.3% from the same time last year. So, overall it claims I did not even reach the same peak of my muscle mass as last year at this time… in other words it says I gained more fat than muscle again, but at least it is not 200% more but only about 100% more or about 2.2 pounds of muscle and 2.8 pounds of fat… that’s what I get for eating tons of protein… frustrating to say the least. Well, the fat cells are already there, so I guess it is easy just to refill them… Anyway, a lot less muscle growth this year… just regaining what I lost since last year according to my scale, although I feel stronger than last year. I am going to have to try to maintain muscle this year I guess.

Thoughts? Will training once a week be enough to maintain muscle mass?
