Magners Blonde Cider

#1

Just bought a 4-pack of this cider

2.6 grams carbs per bottle.

I really wanted to like it. I was expecting it to be very dry and bitey, but it’s actually really sweet. I’m wondering if it contains some form of sweetener, not sure if anyone knows? Nothing listed on the ingredients.

To be honest, I’d rather drink a nice white wine. I’d rate it 2 out of 5 stubby holders.

Cool, thanks for the heads up! I’m a big cider far so it’s nice to see this is available.

Michelob Ultra has a Light Cider as well:

Not very light. 10g / 12 oz.

It’s all relative, right?

I’ve got three of these left. I really don’t like them, on the off chance that there’s someone nearby who wants to try them, they’re welcome to them (over 18’s obviously!). I’m in Lynbrook, Victoria Australia.

Well, apparently this does contain a sweetener. But they won’t say what it is, only what it isn’t (apparently it’s not Aspartame)

I still await a response. I am amazed that a food product can be sold in Australia where a manufacturer can not put ingredients on the label, and refuse to tell you what’s in it.

My exchange with them is below. You can draw your own conclusions as to whether you purchase this product.

Yikes. What about the phenylketonuriacs?

For what it’s worth, here’s their response.

I’m not going to bother responding on Facebook.

I’ve made quite a bit of home made cider over the last year or two. I’ve got several gallons waiting in my garage. If you make cider how it would have been made back in the day (apple juice + yeast + time) then all of the sugar will ferment out, even if you add sugar at the beginning the result at the end is extremely dry and tart. If you use the right type of yeast and give it time, it will consume all the fermentable sugars out.

I suspect that they either stop fermentation early, killing the yeast and leaving some sugar, or they are back sweating with artificial sweetener, OR Lactose. If they are using the latter it could have a huge effect on insulin even if its low in sugar.

Sounds kind of like kombucha?

Sounds really good. To bad on the carbs😞We like to make red beers w/Mich Ultra. Just a dash on tomato juice, salt & a squeeze of lime. They’re amazing, but we only get one if we have um.

#12

Well that’s not cool.

I think so, I don’t know kombucha so much.
