Macros?

When we talk about percentages of fat, protien and carbs…is this per meal or per day. I always find this confusing.

grams are considered “per day”. So, for example, 20 grams carbs…per day.

Percentage is helpful to look at for meal. So, for example…it is best to eat your carbs and protein with fat, at certain ratios (i.e. high fat ratio) to buffer the insulinogenic response caused by carbs and protein.

Generally, per day.

But keep in mind that percentages and macros aren’t an exact science. Just a way of keeping to the formula of limited carbs (< 20g per day), protein sufficient for maintaining lean body mass, and fat to sateity.

Absolutely so clear when you put it like that. Thanks.
I’ve downloaded ‘my fitness pal’ but I’m a bit slow and really will have to get someone to show me. HUBBY…WAKE UP :joy::joy::joy:!!

So as long as I maintain the 20 gram carbs and the protien to a reasonable level the fat should be OK. I use butter and fatty meat, eggs, bacon, pepperoni, avocado and double cream yum yum…oh and coconut oil among other stuff.
I think I have made the mistake of having too much on my plate eg, 100 g celariac, 100g cauliflower,
70 -100g meat… with butter

The solution for that isn’t necessarily to put less on, but rather to be willing to push the plate away before it’s empty, and save your leftovers. The key is listening to your body…eventually, it should start telling you when you’ve had enough, and you stop there.

Just to add to what @devhammer said, just because a keto calculator told you that you need 150g of fat a day doesn’t mean that you have to force feed to meet that number.
Eat when you are hungry. Some days you will eat 150g fat, some days you just won’t be hungry.
If you are not hungry, don’t eat. And don’t let anyone force you to eat.
Don’t stress over the ratios, keto is easy. Have some fatty protein and fill up with fats.

Thank you Earnest, I must relax about it all.
Another day tomorrow
