Low Ketone - new meter

@atomicspacebunny

Just got my ketomojo and tested 90 mins after lunch. I’m planning on fasting after this lunch for 30 hrs. This will be my 2nd EF for the week with IF 18/6 between. This is a new meter and new strips.

Been losing 2.5 to 3.25 lbs a week for the last several weeks.

  • BG 95mg/dL (happy about this, been persistently higher in the past when tested with my wife’s BG meter)

  • Ketones Low

  • spinach and arugula salad

  • 8 small green olives

  • 6 small kalamata olives

  • 20g olive oil

  • 1 small pepperoncini pepper

  • 2 eggs scrambled in with feta cheese (1.25 oz), cooked in a small amount of butter

  • 1 serving of smoked mackerel

I do check at home with the pee strips and usually, there is some significant color even after eating. Been strict keto for 8 months. Fully fat adapted. Workout most days without and energy issues.

Is a ketone reading of low expected or okay 90 mins after eating?

I will check this evening before bed. ~9 hrs post meal.

Thanks for your help.

So it actually said “low” or “lo” ?
It’s usually a good idea to check before eating, as eating can lower ketone levels.

Lo

I did a check with someone else’s meter 90 mins after a sinilar meal last week and my bBb was 1.4 mmol/L.

This is a new meter. I will run another test in the morning when I am 18hrs fasted.

It’s possible that it’s an accurate reading. Hard to say, since you didn’t test before eating. Also, you didn’t check with your wife’s meter, so no real comparison.

Okay I just used my new meter again at 9 hrs fasted.

  • 80 mg/dL BG

  • 1.2 mmol/L BHB

  • GKI 3.7

  • BOZ Ratio 67

I knew I was going to read some ketones because I can taste them tonight. Sitting in my office at work waiting for a server problem to be solved so I can call it a night. Plan to push this fast to just 30hrs. Will redo the measurements at 29 hrs to see what my ratios are.

8 months in, that right their would indicate to me the reason for the low ketones which is good (your liver, cells, skeletal muscle tissue and brain etc. are actually using all of it for energy and it’s not floating around in the blood or being excreted into the urine), ketones/bhb tend to fluctuate from low to high minute to minute by simply moving around physically giving what I would call confusing readings (e.g. high ketone readings; making you mistakenly assume your burning body fat, when your actually not). When you first start out on a ketogenic diet (your ketone levels tend to be lower while your glucose levels are higher) but I think your beyond (8 months in) that now?

When your playing with a ketogenic diet it can be real tricky?

That menu looks perfect for burning actual body fat.

I think that’s how a pro would do it!
