Low carb wraps

(Chelsea Barnett) #21

That’s what I was thinking. So what if it’s added fiber. They have to count the fiber under the total carb correct ? So either way it is only 5 net carbs. So therefore I shouldn’t worry as long as I have enough carbs for the day to spare 5 for this ?

(karen) #22

yes.

(karen) #23

yes, I believe that’s exactly right. You might be eating a wrap that is 50% psyllium husk or sawdust , but you’re only getting 5 grams of usable carb.

#24

I would eat them. And if I found they gave me cravings or made me stall then I would stop. It doesn’t hurt to try things out. N=1 and all that.

(Chelsea Barnett) #25

Hahaha that’s funny. I’d love to eventually eat all whole foods but right now I’m still getting used to low carb. I’ve given up so much these past few months It’s crazy. I’m a work in progress haha

(Chelsea Barnett) #26

Well I ate one today and I feel fine. No cravings. I’m actually not even hungry again. But I usually eat once a day now that I’ve gotten used to keto.

#27

Then I think your fine :+1:

(matt ) #28

Do you have a source for this? Carbs are carbs and fiber is fiber. Whole foods or not.

I don’t eat these wraps all the time but when I have one I don’t worry at all. But I am so lazy keto I dont worry about much.

#29

Me too. I call it “laid back” keto.

(Christine) #30

Yikes. Wheat? Nopers. And despite the fav of counting net, some fiber is absorbed in some people.

(Allie) #31

I wouldn’t let those things anywhere near my body. So easy to make your own, I make a batch of these and they keep in the fridge for over a week -

(Joy) #32

I don’t think eating wood fiber is bad, just an fyi as to where it often comes from. I personally like lots of white oak in my red wine.

I think @Shortstuff’s idea to make your own is the optimal option for those who have the time and inclination.

this past weekend, I finally finished a package of Low Carb Tortillas. Probably had one every other week or so. Since I’m mostly carnivore, the occasional bump in carbs hasn’t been a problem. Remember n=1 and bodies reactive differently. Also depends on what else you are eating.

My suggestion ~ if you choose it, Enjoy it! just don’t make it a staple.

Can’t wait to try this recipe! Have you tried freezing them? 10 is too many for me in a week.

(Ethan) #35

Plenty of companies make low-car wraps. I have had significant insulin and glucose responses from several of them before, even though they were supposedly 6g net carbs.

(Allie) #36

No I’ve never tried freezing them but think they should be fine. I’m sure I’ve kept them in the fridge for around two weeks, using one most days.

#37

These tortillas look yummy! Thx for the recipe

(Chelsea Barnett) #38

What does n=1 mean

(back and doublin' down) #39

n=1 means an experiment or study where the sample size is one. If you start reading scientific studies that involve people, such as a study of diet, the data will include the ‘sample size.’ Phinney did a study of 17 athletes. That would be n=17. or maybe a study involved 1250 people, and would read n=1250.

Around here, n=1 reminds us that we are all unique, and what might work for one could have a different affect for another.

Recently while missing soft tortillas - I’ve tried store-bought natural coconut tortillas that had the consistency of paperboard (they just stayed terribly firm through all cooking techniques) and jicama tortillas, which were better, though with that jicama crunch, and they got slimy when steamed :frowning:

I’ve tried making a few different recipes for coconut flour flatbreads that were failures, but that recipe Allie shared looks like a winner due to the psyllium husk powda and spices, and technique.

For now, I occasionally use the boxed “Simple Meals” almond flour flatbread mix and make a foccacia thing by adding dry Rosemary and/or pizza seasoning that provides 4 single servings or 2 for 2. The same brand’s pizza crust is great - I press it thin as possible and overbake it for a crisp crust.
