Love this place!

Hi All,

I am so glad I stumbled upon these forums! My boyfriend and I began the Keto diet 5 days ago. We did our best to inform ourselves about how to get started but unsurprisingly I have tons of questions. I’ve been able to handle about 1/2 hr of web searching at a time before either my eyes glazed over or my head exploded.

Then I find this place, and it’s all right here! :grinning:
One of the best discoveries so far is about daily fat intake. Imagine my relief to discover that it’s not necessary for me to intake as many grams of fat I thought I was supposed to have per day. Short of nibbling on a stick of butter (not really, but you get the idea) I had no idea how I was going to make that happen, especially since I’ve not been hungry outside of my meals. Now I see that I eat fats to satiety, and THAT I can do. We’ve kept our carbs at or under 20g all week and have met our protien goals without any problems so far.

Other questions about calories, bone broth, macros, being fat adapted, keto sticks, fat bombs and on and on…Im reading like crazy and finding such helpful info.

I hope to not be the person that asks the questions that have already been asked and answered a hundred times already that a simple search would reveal. But please don’t hold it against me, if in a state of complete overwhelm I do exactly that

I just started a couple months ago and was of your mindset. I remember thinking “There is NO way I can eat that much fat!”

I discovered:
A) Yes I can
B) I don’t need to

(whew)

Good luck on your lifestyle change!

Welcome and happy tidings on your journey. I hope you enjoy keto as much as many of us and have great results.

(bulkbiker) #5

Yes some of us do that…although I tend to dip it in some sea salt first.

I always nip the end off my butter before I drop it in my hot coffee. Or if I am hungry… slice off a sliver and pop it in my mouth.

That’s what I do when cooking…
I have also noticed since I stopped using any veg oil including olive, only animals fats and butter, that my cooking pans (I bought new ones) don’t get that brown staining on them any more they still look pristine after 6 months of cooking.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

(I don’t know how to do the quote thingies)

Right after I made that post I discovered some threads where people mentioned eating butter, I had no idea that was a thing.

If you highlight some text in a post a grey box should pop up that says “Quote”. Click on that and you should get a post box with your highlighted text quoted.

Kerrygold is the best flavored butter IMO. It is saltier and I think that is why I like it so much. I used to take a bite or lick some butter off a knife but I always felt a twinge of guilt from my low-fat diet days. Now I worry not!!!

Ahhh okay, super helpful, thanks Janie!

Today it dawned on me that I don’t have to buy unsalted butter… unless I want to! I’ve seen Kerrygold mentioned a few times, so I looked for it at the nearby grocery store and didn’t find it. Maybe Whole Foods has it, I’ll look for it this weekend.

Welcome! And yes, this is an incredible place with great people, and more all the time. To me, it feels like a 24 hour coffee bar where you can sit and chat with friends!

And butter…I remember how much trouble I used to get into when I was a kid (50 years ago) dipping my knife into that soft, yummy stick of butter and eating it straight!

Like those above, welcome! And yes, this is a great place to learn all about the Keto Lifestyle and meet great people! … Warning: Reading the post on this forum can be addicting! But seriously, you will find the more you read, the more you understand, and the easier you will find everything else.

Good luck!

I didn’t understand the butter thing when I first joined, but I do now, definitely a butter addict!
