Hi there!
I started keto about 8 weeks ago and love it. Feel better etc etc. I lost quite some weight, esp in the beginning. Went down from 163 lbs to now 140lbs.
After the first month I stalled for a bit but the last week I lost a lot of weight. Over 5 lbs in 8 days!
Anyone else experience this sudden drop in weight like this?
I am not starving myself, do IF 16/8 or 18/6 5 days a week for a few weeks now and actually don’t feel hungry in between.
I feel like if I eat more I’d be too full.
Any ideas? Should I eat more?
Losing weight too fast?
I’d keep it up unless you go significantly below your goal weight which probably won’t happen.
Those sound like excellent results! From my experience, it is quite normal to go through periods of stalls and zooms (for lack of a better word).
I am guessing that you are not diabetic, do not have insulin resistance, and are not metabolically damaged, but just simply needed to lose some weight?
That, plus ketosis, plus your intermittent fasting is the perfect combo for quick weight loss. Especially the daily IF. That is the secret - give your body enough time with no caloric input to where it has to go burn that stored fat.
Thanks John
You are correct about your guesses. Just want to lose weight and feel better.
So after last week I might stall for a bit again.
I won’t worry about the rapid loss then.
I hope it’s not too fast. I have lost 38lb in the last 9 weeks, and I would be happy to lose another 38lb in the next 9 weeks
The rate of fat loss on keto is only a problem if it leaves lots of loose skin behind, in my opinion. My own loss was slower, so I am just flabby, not melted-looking. @Shazzah73 Since you are now so close to your goal weight, you are likely to find those last ten pounds coming off much more slowly than the other weight. You might also find your body taking advantage of the abundance of calories to add muscle and increase bone density. This will affect you weight on the scale, of course, but it shouldn’t hamper the loss of excess fat. You may wish to track your clothing size as an additional measure of progress. Personally, I believe scale weight to be irrelevant, it’s excess fat I want to lose.
I had about 25 pounds that needed to go. My goal was to lose no more than half a pound a week.
I exercised along the way to try and preserve lean mass. I saw much bigger fluctions on the scale and assumed those were changes in water weight. Today the fat pounds are gone. I have my highschool waist line back for the first time since highschool and 12% body fat. Now I want to put the weight back as lean tissue. I’m aiming for 1/4 pound per week for two years or if that’s not practical how about 1/8 of a pound a week for 4 years. At 69 years old it’s not about fast. It’s about how long.
Ah, the lucky people who lose weight fast and worry about it. Then there are those - like me - who haven’t had a carb over 20 grams and lose and gain the same pound for weeks.
You must be doing something right - keep it up!
It might not be the same one, it might be doing it on a rotation basis with a few mates.
I think it’s just a bodily effort to frustrate me as my husband I eat the same stuff and he drops pounds wildly.
That is frustrating!
I think we all have our own macros that work best for us. If I think what I changed in the last few weeks is that I upped my proteine a bit and reduced my fat intake a little leaving me more satiated. I do restrict calories, not really intentionally. I track my macros and notice that I rarely eat more than 1400 cal a day, mostly around 1300. But I am full at this amount.
I do agree. We’re not actually eating mouthful for mouthful though. He seems to be able to get away with low carb beer and sauces and such I would never have. It’s an age old thing - the men vs women weight loss examples.
I’m definitely not melted looking lol.
I am just surprised at the sudden fast weight loss since at this point I’m not overweight anymore but have a bmi of around 22/23 ( yes I know bmi is just a number).
I always understood that losing more than 2 pounds a week isn’t healthy.
But I feel good…
It’s not only the scale telling me this. Size of my waist, clothes size…
