Have you guys tried any of Lily’s stevia sweetened chocolate? Not in a recipe, but just a few squares? just curious.
Lily's Stevia Sweetened Choc Bars
They’re tasty, but I find that they cause me cravings for more sweets.
I think for folks who don’t end up eating more than a few squares, they may be fine. I’m probably not one of those people, sadly.
They’re also absurdly expensive, IMO.
I luv Lily’s. I don’t notice cravings with this chocolate, but I portion them immediately because I have a difficult time not eating a 1/2 bar as a meal replacement.
i saw them the other day along with a brand sweetened with monk fruit…lakanto i think (or something like that)
i was too cheap to even try them…
I use Lily’s chocolate chips when I make chocolate chip cookies – those are quite good. I try and limit making those kind of foods, however.
Love them! And SkinnyMe squares and truffles are great too depending on the flavor. Expensive though!
So please correct me if I’m wrong but the net carbs in Lily’s chocolate when I calculate it is usually 4 for the whole bar?
I have in front of me right now. I also have some Chocolove 77%. For the net carbs the Lily’s is good but next to the real stuff, it’s a ways off. I can eat more Lily’s for my budget but sometimes less is more.
Thanks @Capnbob, I the Salted Caramel with Almonds and wanted to make sure I was accidentally taking myself out of Ketosis! 4 weeks in and 14 lbs. gone. More than that I feel great but I don’t feel like everyone else with boundless energy…I’m actually tired and find I need more sleep. I am sleeping like a baby but wonder if you have any ideas as to why I am sooooo low energy.
Hard to be sure but 4 weeks is early days and you may well not be fat adapted yet. Remember, most ketone measurements show the unused ketones. Added energy comes from using ketones which you don’t typically measure and it takes time to go from just making ketones to using them effectively. This can take time. KCKO (you knew I’d say that )
Thanks Capnbob! I stumbled across this chic on you tube called Stephanie Persons. What do you think about her stricter thoughts on how to get fat adapted and her NO dairy, nuts, vodka or any alcohol, coffee ETC. take on Ketosis?
Warmly,
Lisa Lomen
I have no personal opinion on her per se (never watched her, never would) but she seems overly strict, prescriptive, exclusive and seems to make mere mortals feel like crap.
If she works for you, great, but the vast majority do very well without that level of restriction, judging and assault on their self worth… but again I’m going from what others have said about their experience trying to follow her.
Most people are very successful ketonauts on dairy, nuts, coffee and booze. Remember, ketosis is not the goal, it is merely a mechanism and indicator to help you get there. Fat adaptation is more important and improving health is the primary objective. Levels of ketosis are fun to track but not the goal for most. Even you are lean and healthy, there are probably better role models plus we are all snowflakes so your best efforts are always to n=1 various ideas on yourself from a multitude of sources.
Capnbob,
Great advice, i admit it would be hard to give up my vodka shots and dairy? Coffee and nuts not so hard!
From her videos it seems the reason for her strictness was her “clients” were not getting fat adapted w/traditional Ketosis…so Strict Stephanie evolved.
She has some good points regarding dairy. Even when our family sold raw milk and cheese we tested and made sure our cows were A2/A2 before purchase and we never fed them store bought grain/corn. i made my own mix for their “grains” and we pasture rotated our fields. Regarding testing, I don’t test myself with anything and if i did i would buy a glucose meter but i’d rather go off how i feel. i appreciate your input and i do feel better after chatting with you! Thanks for being my plumb line.
Warmly,
Lisa Lomen
I got a couple of Lily’s bars this week because Sprouts has them on sale. I ate 1/3 bar (2/3 of an official serving) for my first try, hoping it wouldn’t give me any cravings. So far, so good. It helps I can tuck them away out of sight. I got the plain 70% dark and the sea salt and almond, and tried the almond first. Not bad at all!
Mine too. And had a very interesting discussion about them with a vegetarian who tried to pick me up in the artificial sugars area of Whole Foods today. I’m 67 and this is not a common occurrence for me, but maybe it will be in the future lol.
I know that this is an old thread, but I just discovered Lily’s Chocolate bars and am in real danger. This is by far the best thing I’ve eaten since I went full keto in May. I have not been out of ketosis since then and am desperately hoping the stevia and erythritol in the 1/2 bar I just ate will not do it. I am a sugar addict and pre-keto would often eat chocolate until sick, but have not really craved it since May.
Today, I found these Lily’s bars at my local Publix and was lured into getting them because of their stevia and erythritol content, which I seem to be able to eat without issues. I had forgotten how addictive the overall chocolate bar with almonds taste can be and had a hard time stopping once I started. I think these could easily be a gateway to more damaging sweets and tonight is a reminder for me that the addiction cliff is only a single chocolate bar away.
