Lemon salt (citric acid powder)

(Omar) #1

I searched the net to find conflicting information.

Some sources say there is sodium and potassium in it.

I like the taste and bought some. The nutrition facts indicate zero on every thing but it says that silicone oxide is included to prevent sticking.

My question is there electrolytes when extracting this acid?

Most citric acid today on the market is produced using a specific type of fungus that ferments sugar to citric acid so I would not expect any other major chemical byproducts in it other than trace amounts of sugar, GMO corn or the mold itself. BTW. the mold is closely related to the infamous “black mold”. Depending on the quality of the citiric acid some people may develop an allergic reaction to trace amounts of the mold in the acid.

Now the real question will citric acid kick you out of ketosis. I haven’t found any data to support it either way.

I’m thinking no considering the small amount consumed and the lack of sugar-like ingredients.

I would tend to agree if it were an ingredient in a carb free food item, since amount consumed is usually small. But I would still like to know the affect of pure citric acid in water.
