I’ve been experiencing some significantly leg cramps the past few days. I’ve tried lots of water, salt water, beef bone broth with adds salt, pickle juice, Gatorade Zero, Magnesium and nothing has helped. It’s heled in the past but seems ineffective now. I was recommended to try Cataplex F. Has anyone used this product for cramps?
Leg Cramps- Cataplex F
Low potassium can also cause cramps. If you don’t want to supplement this you can add spinach and other food to your diet to get more K.
Consuming lots of salt, magnesium and potassium held my nighttime leg cramps at bay for the last week, until I spent an hour in Walmart yesterday, where they keep the prevailing temperature at 208 degrees celsius all year long. I awoke in the middle of the night with a doozy yelling “Stop it!”
Sweating is what does it to me, I’ve decided. I wasn’t having any trouble until the weather heated up. There doesn’t seem to be enough replenishing of anything to forestall the cramps when I’m sweating like a pony express horse headed to Yuma in July.
It is hot here but I haven’t done much sweating. I’m only 17 days on the diet and stopped working out until I become adapted.
Agree with all the posts,I find that spinach is great for getting nutrients into the body faster than supplements but sometimes you have no choice when a cramp hits you. I eat a cup of spinach everyday and that seems to keep those symptoms at bay, I also consume 5 grams of Himalayan Pink Salt (has more minerals than normal salt) everyday, just add it to my food that I’m cooking.
Hate to cross-post but this graphic from another poster is handy too. I’m going to type these all out and add them to my accountability thread as a useful reference.
I started having cramps a few weeks in and now the spinach does stop the cramps.
I’ve been doing similar as noted, eating spinach and such. But still getting some cramping, mainly down my calfs and strangely, my feet? … That’s a weird feeling. Never had cramps in my feet, but getting out of bed and putting weight on it and walking a little seems to calm it. Still a pain in the butt to keep getting up for this.
I’ve also been drinking two of the KetoAide drinks on regular days, and maybe 3 when I’m fasting longer. Still be nice to find something that would combat this.
On Keto the kidneys get extremely efficient at getting rid of salt, so the salt you have today is not the salt you need tomorrow. We have to remind ourselves to get enough everyday which is easy to forget. Salt, water and green leafy vegetables. I’ve never used Ketoaid, touch wood, but some people swear by it.
Yeah, it does seem to help quite a bit. (providing calcium, Potassium, Sodium and Magnesium) Actually, now that I think of it, I believe I’ve only been experiencing the cramping when fasting now? Will have to note that and keep track. - If so, I think that maybe I’m getting sufficient salt with my meal, since I’m usually OMAD when not skipping days.
Will definitely keep track when I get them from now on. I can always make sure to get in the extra salt when I’m not throwing some in meals.
Yes, I usually pour out 5grams (1 teaspoon) into a little dish, and use that; by the end of the day it should be empty. Some people use more and that’s cool too. Any other nutrients I get from food is a bonus. Wait until you get a twinge in your lip, that’s a beauty!
Lip twinge? You know, I’m thinking I did read that somewhere now that I think of it, or maybe it was a twitch in the left eye? (I’ve been reading so much the past few months)
But I think I also need to do the same with the salt. Measuring it out I mean. I’ve been carrying a small container full of Sea Salt I bought, that actually has nice size chunks, opposed to the fine grain. I like the option of taking 10-12 nuggets and downing them with water. Not too big on sucking salt all day, though I do occasionally.
