Large meta-analysis of saturated fats, PUFAs, & heart disease

“A new study finds that the current level of evidence does not support guidelines restricting saturated fatty acid consumption to reduce coronary risk nor does it support high consumption of polyunsaturated fats – such as omega 3 or omega 6 – to reduce coronary heart disease.”

This is probably not news to people in the keto community, but this is the largest meta-analysis I’ve seen so far: For the meta-analysis, the researchers analyzed data from 72 studies (including 27 randomized, controlled trials), involving over 600,000 people from 18 different countries.

Good. Not that new though, 2014?

Oh yeah. Whoops

And why, then, was this not considered in the latest dietary recommendations that were written after 2014, which still demonised saturated fat?? :rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage:

Cognitive dissonance. If people who set dietary guidelines make a mistake, it could potentially mean thousands of deaths. I think this is a major influence behind entrenchment and resistance to change, even when the evidence suggests it.
