Ladies who took a while to lose weight (perhaps after an initial loss)

I’m curious, I know a lot of ladies don’t lose a lot of weight at first. I’m at 9 weeks in, and other than my initial loss the 1st week, I’ve lost maybe a pound. So I’m curious, How long did it take you to start losing weight again? I’m assuming that the more messed up our bodies were before we started, the longer it’ll take for our bodies to get to a point where they are comfortable with losing weight.
thanks!

Hi Camille,
This has been my reality. I started LCHF a year and a half ago, and then lost my way part way through the year and ended up with my old way of eating and regaining weight and so I recommited to full keto about 6 months ago.
My weight loss on the scale has been very slow, but the body changes have been profound. I lose a bit of weight and then stall, lose a bit of weight and then stall, gain a bit of weight and then stall, etc.
I’m beginning to think that my bathroom scale is evil!
And even though the scale hasn’t changed as much as I expected that it would, my inches are changing, my body is changing, and my energy level has changed. I work with a personal trainer who takes my measurements every two months and the changes have been significant. I really recommend doing your measurements with a friend or partner (and also photos, so you can witness the changes!).
I have found it inspiring but also frustrating to check out people’s “before and after” posts on Instagram- they are inspiring to me because I can see what is possible, but frustrating because in no way to they reflect the amount of time in my experience!

I encourage you to stick with it, think long term and commit to doing this at least for 6 months (or longer) and then take stock. Give yourself some time. There is a lot of healing that goes on behind the scenes (your liver, your endocrine system…) and this all takes time. Plus, your age and your metabolic well being can greatly effect how quickly the changes happen.
I realized that it took years to get myself into a messed up metalbolism, it will take me a long time to heal. The body has its own needs and timeline, regardless of what our mind’s expectations are.
I have found a great deal of comfort on this forum as well as really solid information. I myself did a deep dive listening to podcasts and watching videos so that I really understood the science so that I could be rock solid in my resolve to eat this way.
The 2Keto Dudes say KCKO - Keep Calm and Keto On - and this really is the best piece of advice!
Hang in there, be kind to yourself.

I only lost a little bit in the first few months, then dropped a heap of weight in 3-4 months, then lost a few more kilos over several months. Now stalled for about 6 months, going up and down within a 5kg range.

Had other non-weight benefits though - Arthritis and asthma in remission, more energy, less pain, better sleep. It’s not all about the scales.

Lost from the get go, but so stalled for the last month.

that is beyond awesome! I’m trying to get my sister with Fibro to start it, I think she will eventually, but I’m hoping for the same sort of awesomeness for her.
I personally love not having the constant highs and lows from blood sugar.

I lost about 15lbs in the first 6 weeks but have been stalled up and down at the same 3lbs for about 6 weeks now. I believe a lot of it has to do with my hormones as I’m breastfeeding…but sort of weaning a bit too…making super crazy fluctuations in my hormones I imagine. I also spent a few weeks experimenting with some artificial sweeteners and I’m sure that’s also playing a part as it definitely ramped up my hunger signals. Despite all of that, my arthritis pain has subsided substantially and it flares every time i eat too many carbs, so I know I must still be in ketosis despite the lack of loss.

My advice, and what I’m doing, is to ride it through. I would love to fast like my husband is doing, but I fear that would not be good for breastfeeding. Alas…

interesting, I love how everyone’s so individual!

WOAH! that is so me too! perhaps we are keto twins? although I don’t have arthritis, how old is your little one? mine will be one this month, and I don’t want to wean him entirely, I just hate pumping at work!

My boy is 7 months and eats solids like a champ. I was dx with arthritis about 3 months postpartum. Hubby mentioned looking into keto and I never turned back. It’s really helped my back pain, though my hands still bother me in the mornings. The more I research, the more I blame my carby sugary diet for my current issues. What a lesson to learn! Though, I suppose I should be greatful I had not developed t2d before beginning this lifestyle.

I hate pumping with a passion. It never empties me like my boy and it is so time consuming. I can spend 20 minutes and get maybe 3 oz on a good day and leave still feeling full. Ugh. I also haven’t had the time at work to pump 3x times per day so he has been getting formula while I’m gone and breast at home.
