Kirkland's 0 calories Sparkling Water review

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #1

I bought some Kirkland 0 cals. sparkling flavored waters at Costco, to get some new flavors. Blackraspberry, strawberry & kiwi, orange & mango, they tasted really good. I did not read the fine print, so I have composed this review in hopes of enlightening others.

They are really more like a fake Smart Water, there are vitamins and artificial sweeteners in them, sucrolose and maltodextrin. I am not diabetic and have had those sweeteners before without problems. However, together, this is not something I can drink. Even drinking one 20 oz. bottle over the course of a full day, I saw bounce ups on the scales. IFing took care of those bounces but UGH having to see’em.

After drinking a couple I realized it was triggering “want to eat stuff” in my brain, plus when you read the individual bottle’s label it states 2 carbs. If you can tolerate AS, then they would be a good occasional treat.

But if you have ANY issues with ASs, avoid these.

I’m back to LaCroix, with some wine mixed in occasionally for me.

I avoid the sparkling waters like those. Only ones I go for are ones that are just sparkling water and flavor. Or regular water and flavor, like Hint.

I figure if I am going to drink something with the crappy fillers and sweeteners in it. Then it might as well be a diet coke or something that would really be something I consider a treat. I mean they are pretty much the same at that point anyway.

Yes, we have also learned not all sparkling waters are the same, but there are some good ones out there. We always make sure we read the nutritional information first, been fooled before.

LaCroix seems to be fine. Also we have a soda stream at home, so I just crank out a bottle of that and cut up some lime wedges.

I got a soda stream a couple weeks ago when I realized how much cheaper it would be in the long run composted to buying sparkling water or diet soda. I freaking love sparkles. I used to drink a boatload of diet soda not because of the sweet taste of the caffeine but because of the sparkles. Anyway, I’m the days following I gained a bunch of weight because of it. I was coming off of a fast so gaining weight did not surprise me, but I ended up almost 4kg heavier than before the fast. However I wasn’t worried because I’m a big proponent of not concerning yourself with short term weight fluctuations. I was also otherwise following my regular routine so I had a pretty good idea that it was the excess consumption of plain sparkling tap water that was causing it, and water weight is not something I care about gaining or losing. Sure enough, once the novelty of unlimited sparkling water wore off and I went back to a regular liquid consumption I lost all that extra weight in a couple of days. This is also something I’ve experienced before when switching preferred soda brand or going between soda and sparkling water etc. I gain a bunch of weight when I drink a lot, then when the novelty wears off I lose it all again.

Moral of the story is, liquids can cause huge fluctuations in weight, but it’s not really fluctuations you should care about.

Honestly, I was in such a hurry when I made the purchase I read the labeling as 0 carbs, wasn’t until I had made my way through a bottle that I did a good run through on what was inside. It has B vitamins, which is a good thing, but my meat provides me with plenty of them.

I have been drinking LaCroix flavored water for a while now and it doesn’t seem to impact me either way. Love mixing it with small amounts of wine for wine spritzers.

I just wanted all the folks who do have an issue with ASs that this isn’t a good choice for them. It sure wasn’t for me. Back to my LaCroix, found passionfruit flavored today, I love passionfruit but oh the carbs if you eat the fruit.
