Kirkland Toasted Seaweed Snacks - uses?

(Candy Lind) #1

I got adventurous on my first ever Costco run. Has anyone tried these “organic toasted seaweed snacks?” I got some because a) seaweed’s so nutritious; b) my Godson makes sushi with his son, so if I hate them they won’t be wasted; & c) they’re a nice clean way to add some “umami” to my cooking. They are little “papery” sheets about 2 x 3 inches, and 1/5 packet is only 20 calories (mostly from sunflower & sesame oil). Any ideas for using them, besides eating out of hand, would be appreciated. Ooh, maybe I’ll bread some fish with some pork rind dust, add mayo then a few sheets of this before baking …

PS they are a nice savory salty snack as well, with good keto macros (although you’d need to eat about a million for significant energy impact).

You can moisten between damp paper towel until pliable. Create keto sushi.

My recommended preparation: sous vide a nice fat ribeye, take a package of seaweed, throw the package of seaweed away, and then eat the ribeye.

While I like them and went through a phase of eating them from another company, I try to limit seed oils as much as possible and this has seed oils. I did find a more expensive version that was made with olive oil but I did not want to spend the extra money so I gave it up. That is the problem with most commercial food, the seed oils are everywhere

Except - I never really liked sushi! LOL I suppose I could try again. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Gives you a bit of iodine for your thyroid. Don’t over do, read quantity.

I love these. Eat them when I want some crunch. Potassium, magnesium, sodium… And for a quick fat bomb, spread them with some good butter. Also good to wrap a slice of aged cheese. And no spike in either bg or insulin for me.

I love to eat these nori sheets wrapped around a half of a lightly hard-boiled egg! Very tasty!

I make some tuna or salmon salad and put a dab in each seaweed sheet and eat it that way.

Yup. I’d been eating them for a while without noticing the seed oils, perhaps because I started eating them early in keto, and they seemed like a good replacement for potato chips, which were a problem for me. I also tended to snack on them, and I’d prefer not to have snacks around anyway, so I think I’ll finish off what I have over a long period of time and stop buying them altogether. When I started keto, I had big time electrolyte issues (as with a number of nutritional issues), but I don’t feel like I need to worry much anymore, as I don’t seem to cramp up while fasting now.

I have these and forgot about them; because of Keto, it did not occur to me that I could eat them! Now I am thinking when my hubby has his upcoming surgery, I could make little rolls with cream cheese as snacks for me. I was already planning on bringing hard boiled eggs, some cheese, and broccoli pieces, so this will be good too! Thanks =).

I do seaweed wraps. I find I miss sushi and even though every once in a while I will get sushi and tell them to do it without rice or crunchies, I am pretty certain there is other bad in there. So instead I order the 50 packs of seaweed sheets (not the snacks, the ones used for real sushie) and I will do a wrap of cream cheese, smoked salmon and either avocado or cucumber

Has anyone ever seen something similar at a Sam’s Club? (closest Costco is 90+ miles away and we don’t have a membership.

I lay them on a plate, cover with cheese slices, top with more nori and microwave to melt cheese!
