Kicking fasting goals- 5 days

(Sarah Bruhn) #1

Keto for 6 months, LCHF for 12 and I’ve been practicing IF throughout. I have managed 48 hr fasts and never been able to get through the third day, finally met my goal of 5 DAYS!
(yes I used crutches but I was just ready to do what it took to get through that 2-3 day hard bit) Yay me!
lost 2 kg, feeling amazing… only started eating because my brain wanted to taste food and i was a bit headachy.
Next time I’m striving for 7 days…
how long do you usually wait until the next EF? I’m feeling good so I feel like I can feast a few days and go again. Still have plenty of fat in storage

Sarah
Outstanding!! Well done.

Rather amazingly, you are exactly where I am. I am just coming to the end of my first 5 day fast. I was thinking of going to tomorrow morning, but I think I will eat this evening. No hunger, just got to start again sometime.

I am going to feast over the weekend, and then do my normal 1 day fasts next week on Monday and Thursday. I would recommend at least a few days feasting if you are thinking of going long again.

Take care, and well done again!:+1:

Congrats on your first 5! It was a massive mental hurdle for me getting past that 3 days so now I feel like I could do anything. I think 3 days of feasting should cover another EF.

Great work! Thanks for the inspiration!

Congrats! 5 days is an often recommended fasting time ~ you did great! And I hear ya about overcoming those mental hurdles. I’ve made it 4, 4.5 days several times. I’m at 4.5 now and feel totally confident I’ll make it to the evening.

Feel great when I fast and starting to dread the refeeding because I never feel as good eating as I do fasting. And, like you, trying to decide what’s next. I may feast through the weekend and OMAD for three days because of work schedule. Thinking of a 48 hr fast weekly on Mondays/Tuesdays, careful keto the rest of the time and compare the month long pattern to previous months. It may be time to build a spreadsheet to really study my trends and efforts.

I just broke my second 3-day fast last night. Both times, I had zero issues and found it to be amazingly easy which was a pleasant surprise since I didn’t know what to expect. - Also, both times when I ended, I felt like I could go much longer too. … And like you, I wanted to jump right back into another one! - I ended up going three days before starting the second one.

@Paendora -

I thought I had read something like this before, but don’t recall where. Do you have any info as to why they suggest this, over say a 3 day or even 7 day? Just wondering… But I’ve actually been thinking of doing some 5-day fast, and basically doing them during the work week, which I think would work best for me.

I’m terrible at remembering stuff like this but maybe someone else around here can recall?

I’ve heard 3 and 5 day fasts. Some say longer. Dr Fung and Megan Ramos seldom recommend going over 14, and seem to be speaking more to shorter fasts. I’m doing the longer 5 day fasts in hopes of improving my metabolism. Will be tempted to go longer at some point after watching The Science of Fasting on Amazon Prime because (while I don’t have medical proof) believe my digestive system is compromised and I think a longer term fast might heal that.

Thanks, Susan. Appreciate the information. … Also not sure if I would like to do any of the real long fast myself, but the 3, 5 and possibly 7 sound good.
