Kevin Rose's new app for fasting- called Zero Fasting Tracker

(Karen Parrott) #1

Anyone using Kevin Roses’ new app called Zero- Fasting Tracker (free) iPhone (not sure about android)? I just downloaded and I can pick from Circadian Rhythm Fasting (Dr. Panda), or Custom Intermittent Fasting, or 5:2 fasting.

I just started using it on the Circadian Rhythm Fasting ( I’m a fan of Dr. Panda’s lab). I’ll let you know how it works in a week or so. Karen P.

I don’t understand what it does? Sounds like a clock.

It’s a fancy clock that collects your start and stop times. Looks like you can export data. I’ll report back in a week and let you know what I found.

Looks like it’s only iPhone

(Karen Parrott) #5

Yeah!! On his website, A bunch of people are bugging them for android

While there still isn’t an Android version of Kevin Rose’s app, there seems to be a ton of fasting tracker apps for Android. I can’t personally vouch for any of them (yet), but as an Android user, I will certainly let everyone know if I find one that shines above the rest.

I am curious how you liked it. I am looking into apps to help me with the fasting. I look forward to your report.

Hi Paula! I liked the app. The options to edit are only once per day, and the data is nice. I only used the app for 2 weeks to get an idea of where I was ( IF for 17 hrs most days)

I often forgot to log my early afternoon start fasting time, so I’d have to wait until the next day to edit.

It’s less time consuming than the 14 weeks of the MyCircadian clock ( IRB study from the Salk Institute). But that app was connected to a larger reasearch database.

Well, I downloaded and tested several of he fasting apps in the Google Play Store for Android, and I sadly have to report that most of them are utter shite. :poop:  Some didn’t allow editing, some weren’t even close to intuitive, some haven’t been updated in years, some simply didn’t live up to expectation…

The search continues!

Did you find a good fasting app? If so share you pick . I’m trying to decide which on to try.

(Karen Parrott) #11

No. Sorry. Good luck. I’ll probably use Kevin Roses app Zero if I want to track my fasts again. I’m over due for using Dr Pandas app ( optional for me) for the fasting portion.

i like this app…wish my android friends could use it

(Karen Parrott) #13

Ping Kevin Rose and see if one will be available.

I just installed it on my phone… looks promising!

I’ve just created Vora, a cloud-based fasting tracker available on iOS and Android. Reviews so far have been very positive. It’s under active development, so feedback is extremely welcome!

Just downloaded and giving it a try. Thanks

Exciting, i’ll check. If its not up to snuff i’m not just go back to using a “quit smoking” app

(Jantine Strik) #18

Cool! I’ve just downloaded it, and will use it for a while and get back to you

I downloaded it, but am confused - under set target fast - it doesn’t explain if that is days or hours. But here are things I DESPERATELY want in an app like this:

  1. the ability to choose a fast (18:6, OMAD, etc.) and set HOURS (for example I like to eat between 6AM and 2 PM and fast 2PM to 6AM) - I would LOVE for it to REMIND me an hour before my fast starts to EAT SOMETHING (for those days I get too busy and forget).
  2. I would LOVE to be able to interact with the fasting data and entering information through the notifications. So for example, I would get a notice at 2PM that FASTING STARTS NOW - by clicking on the notification, I can select things “Yes, I started now” or “Remind me in an hour” or “Cancel today’s fast” (what other options there may be, I know you can’t have too many - maybe the last is “open the app to change today’s data”
  3. something where I do not have to always go into the app to start and stop. For me, I know what hours I am wanting to eat and fast and want a reminder of when those start stop times are. And for when I am going longer, to be able to maybe hold down the start button long than normal and it says something like “Are you wanting to fast longer?” for those few times a month I want to fast 5-7 days instead of IF.

Just my wishlist. I would love to see what other want and hopefully we can get an amazing app going!

Thanks for the feedback, Paula!
0) Definitely hours.

  1. I use Vora myself. My fasting schedule is super random but I have been learning that others have rigid schedules. I would never use this feature myself, but I will take the suggestion into consideration.

  2. Good suggestion, again this is going down the rigid schedule path. I think this is possible in Android and iOS.

  3. You fast for 5-7 days? Impressive!

I guess I’m not super sure what people want. I built the app for my own tastes. I’m collecting user feedback as fast as I can.

I think the takeaway is to add a feature that will Automatically schedule a fast to start, stop, and schedule notifications

I think this would be unintrusive to the current app.
