Hello everyone!

Here’s a little background story and my experience being on keto for about 4 months now.

Sooo, I’ve been doing keto since April & I really enjoy the benefits of lowering my carb intake! However, I think my body needs more healing on a deeper level due to my autoimmune condition and food intolerances (leaky gut). That’s why I want to experiment a little with the carnivore diet! I used to follow a vegan (high-carb, zero fat, moderate protein) diet from age 13 to 19. At that time I was not aware that I had a gluten, soy & lactose intolerance and I didn’t listen to my body - it clearly did not respond very well to this type of diet and I suffered a lot but didn’t want to give in & eat meat or fish. These days I remind myself that “nature is cruel”.
I am not saying that vegan diets are bad or that there is a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to food…it’s not wrong to experiment with food but please listen to your body! :slightly_smiling_face:

Ever since my Hashimoto Thyreoiditis diagnosis at the age of 18 my mental health has been cascading down - to the point I’ve felt like a complete stranger to myself, unable to control my behavior. It really took a toll on me… so I started to dive deeper into nutrition & to listen less to my doctor’s “advice” (= prescriptions). I am not saying you shouldn’t listen to your doctor/physician but the ones I had were definitely harming me more than doing me good. I haven’t found a doctor that I feel comfortable around and one that truly understands my condition yet. There aren’t many doctors who are specialized in keto/carnivore & understand Hashi and its symptoms here in Austria… so I’m reaching out to you guys.

Here’s how my thyroid levels look like being 4 months on keto:

  1. FT3: 3.56 pg/ml (normal range: 2.15 - 4.12 pg/ml)
  2. FT4: 1.71 ng/dl (normal range: 0.70 - 1.70 ng/dl)
  3. TSH: 2.91 µU/ml (normal range: 0.30 - 4.00 µU/ml)
  4. TPO: 34 IU/ml (normal range: less than 34 IU/ml)
  5. Tg: 71 IU/ml (normal range: less than 115 IU/ml)

Current weight: 63.5 kg/140 pounds
Height: 1.75 m/ 5’8"

My antibodies have gone down drastically, they are almost in the normal range again. Now I’m willing to go closer to zero carbs a day because I don’t seem to react well to cruciferous veggies and even the slightest amount of dairy products!
So far I’ve been eating close to 170g of fat & 90-120g of protein a day. Today will be my first “ketovore” try and I thought about chicken liver…bacon & some garlic in the pan to kick-start the day.

Are any of you carnivore/ketovore and have an autoimmune condition? Would love to hear your story and advice!

Greetings & much love from Vienna,
Nicole

P.S.: I also did extended water-fasts (two times 4 1/2 days) and do intermittent fasting (16:8).

Hello, I too have been an autoimmune mess for almost my entire life (58 years old minus the year I have followed a Ketogenic Eating Style)
I eat mostly fats, proteins with a serving of above ground vegetables, maybe 4 time a week.
I do have Hashimoto Thyroid Disease as well as Celiac Disease BUT all have vastly improved since eating Ketogeniclly. I do take a natural dessicated thyroid prescription because of the damage done to my thyroid over the years, but that’s it drugs.
I wish you continued success!!
