Ketosis..đź’¬

I’m about 3 month in and I was using the “pee stick”. I heard that the are not totally accurate. For a few weeks now I have not been in according to them. How do I know if I’m in ketosis?

My understanding of them is that the actual colour is not terribly accurate, mainly because they are only measuring what is wasted not what you are making, but it would be very unusual to be in ketosis and show no ketones at all on the sticks. It suggests you are not in ketosis.
Perhaps you have a bit of carb creep.
What macros are you targeting?

Maybe it’s possible at this point, you are no longer spilling excess ketones and you body is using them for energy? How are you feeling?
I would think that as long as you haven’t been consuming anything or drastically changing your diet so to knock you out of ketosis, you should be fine. I wouldn’t sweat what the pee sticks are showing.

My way of eating hasn’t changed. The odd minor slip but nothing big. I work midnights lol so I dont feel alot of the energy part. I’ve lost over 35 lbs since june. I maybe once a week use the pee stick and it says no trace.

Once you’ve been in ketosis long enough, usually a few weeks, your body gets very good at using the ketones. Therefore you should no longer be peeing out excess ketones that would be traceable on the urine sticks. That is a good thing. But it means the urine sticks are now useless. I recommend getting a blood ketone meter or a breath ketone meter like ketonix. The breath meter is more expensive but it’s a one time cost and you can use it over and over throughout the day. The blood meter is only about $40 but then you have to buy the ketone test sticks for it which can get spendy if you do it daily.

No, you sound fat adapted.
Which makes sense that you are not wasting any more ketones through your urine as your body is using them effectively.
Congratulations

The blood ketone strips are expensive, but you might be able to get your doctor to give a prescription/get insurance authorization for them. I don’t know how common it is for insurance to approve it, but if your doctor can convince them there is a medical need, maybe it will be covered  I know my insurance does cover a great majority of the cost.

You’ve lost 45lbs since June, you’re eating the same. Unless your weight loss stalls and you can’t figure it out there’s no reason to continually test ketones. Don’t waste your money. Keto Mojo and buying bulk strips is the cheapest way as far as blood testing goes, then Ketonix for breath testing.
