Ketosis vs Fat Adaption

(Guardian of the bacon) #1

This is a 3 part blog series written by Amy Berger.
She explains things in a simple matter that most new ketonians should easily understand.

Being Fat Adapted Versus “In Ketosis” (Pt.1/3)

I read this and I would say that she “opines” rather than “explains”.

making me break out the dictionary…

I thought it was well written and informative.

But not authoritative. There’s no actual definition of what “fat adaption” is, no experimental data, nothing quantifiable. It’s basically about her personal experience and how she feels under different dietary regimens.

Very interesting, but doesn’t represent anything outside her personal experience.

I find most of Keto information available is a conglomeration of N=1. There is some science but not nearly enough. She explained what most people go through in ways most newbies can understand.

Science isn’t a rock solid thing anyways. It ebbs and flows as new research becomes available.

The pic of ketostix shows that this isn’t very scientific information. No, I haven’t read it, I’m sticking to experts rather than random bloggers.

#8

Phinney describes a correlation between uric acid levels and keto adaptation based on his studies.

[note: he primarily performs tests on endurance athletes]

Seems a little more credentialed than “a random blogger”

She has also done extensive writing on the connection between diabetes, Alzheimer’s and keto.

She is also referenced several times in Jason Fungs fasting book.
