I have been on the keto diet for five weeks and use the keto mojo blood tester to monitor my ketone levels. I’m sure it is normal for levels to fluctuate, but mine are trending down and i don’t know why. Two days ago i was at 0.5 and today it is lower because the keto mojo won’t register. I track my macros and have been right on point with them. Very frustrating.
Ketosis help
I think mostly people here will say if you’re losing weight don’t worry about it. If you’ve stopped losing you’ll want to examine your diet. Are you tracking? Have you added anything? Changed brands on something? If not you could recheck your labels and see if something that was fine before has changed.
That’s all I got. I’m fairly new so I’m not probably going to be super helpful, but if you want anyone else to help you figure it out they’ll need your macros and what you’re eating. Dont forget to include things like oil and butter people do that a lot.
High insulin is the biggest enemy of ketosis, Dan. How many carbs per day for you? For some us us with badly deranged metabolism and high insulin resistance, 20 g carbs is the limit to stay in ketosis.
Another culprit can be artificial sweeteners. Despite the lack of actual caloric intake, there are some sweeteners that appear to spike insulin, thus negatively impact ketone levels. This issue seems to be very individual, so it’s recommended to test your ketones 30 min after consuming if you suspect a sweetener issue.
I’m only 3.5 months in myself, but I’ve learned so much thanks to the 2KetoDudes, Jason Fung and many other experts and practitioners of the keto way of eating. Many great books out there too, and this forum which will provide resources to help with the journey.
