Supposedly the Ketonix shows the amount of ketones your body has been used.
Is it too simple to conclude that this would be a good indicator of your metabolic rate, especially during an extend fast?
Ketonix Levels = Metabolic rate?
I am also interested in the answer to this. Whoever may have more in-depth knowledge, could you work into the reply something that addresses the following. I have been working to eat in the ketogenic ratios with my fitnesspal targets of 80% fat, 15% prot, & 5% carbs. Before I started concentrating on those targets (just low-carb), I was easily turning the ketonix red, but now I have been struggling to go yellow, even after 48 hours of fasting.
Does this mean that I’m using all the ketones that I’m producing and not spilling acetone into the breath (ala the pee strips), or am I not producing enough ketones to have the acetone trigger on the ketonix?
background - hunger is controlled, weight not dropping consistently but I’m only about 10-15 lbs from target weight (low 180’s for a 5’10" male). Fasting has been spotty lately (only managing some IF and an occasional 24 hour window), but the ketonix fasting observation was from 3 different 48-64 hour fasts during the Lenten period.
The Ketonix measures the production of acetone which is a byproduct of the creation of ketones, or so I’ve heard. So, it would be a great indicator as to whether you body is producing them. But, it wouldn’t indicate that you are using. However, if your Blood glucose levels are fairly normal, then you must be using them or you are miserable.
thanks … I can only assume that my glucose is good, since I didn’t feel bad. My labs over time have usually landed me at 90 fasting glucose. I know that wasn’t flagged, but I no longer think that the reference ranges are great indicators. Now that I’m more interested in fasting, I might take the plunge and get a glucometer to track, even though I have never been warned or recall symptoms of type II.
Hi just joined this forum. Bought a ketonix about a month ago and been comparing it against blood ( got a good deal on the strips!) and ketostix. I’ve kept a record of the results which seem to say the following.
As I got more keto adapted ketosix barely went pink, except when fasting then they were darker. Blood results confirmed I was in ketosis to varying degrees 0.5 to 2.5. I normally got between 15 and 30 on ketonix but there seemed to no correlation to blood results. Most importantly when I fasted, I did 36 hours 3 times, blood went, up ketostix went up, but I could only get 2 or 3 on the ketonix, this happened every time, so for me the ketonix indicates ketosis most of the time but not when fasting. Hope this helps!
