Ketones/test strips/working out

#1

So I know everyone says the strips don’t work and that they are a novelty. However, they used to show up for me all the time. Now they are always yellow. I’ve tried mornings, nights, mid day. (It’s just nice to have that reminder you’re on track, I don’t live by them)
I track my carbs and eat between 15-20 net a day. I also lift pretty heavy 4 days a week. Does exercise affect the amount of ketones that show up in your pee? On another level, is that a good thing because it means I’m burning the fat as fuel… can someone science me up on this?

Some of them work but the thing I learned is that they go bad pretty fast. You’re supposed to keep them out of light and in a cool, dry place. The most recent bottle I ordered came in a black bottle so I keep them in inside the box and inside the cupboard but since they give you so many it’s possible they may ‘go bad’ before you get to use them all.

Food for thought question.

Has anybody known of anyone not getting into ketosis at 20g carb or below?

Thinking out loud, I’ve never been able to get the damn strips to change color. I figured like everything else, it is because I’m such a strange creature, in every respect.

However, once fat-adapted, ketones are the mechanism by which our body conveys energy, correct? We’re peeing out extra ketones, which registers on those strips, correct? This is extra, unspent energy stores, now en route to the nearest drainage system.

So, given my rather active daily workout regimen, is it possible that I keep my ketone stores low? Hence, the unchanging strip color? I suppose the test would be to fast and not work out for a day and see what happens.

I hate fasting. Someone else go first.

In the final analysis, none of that matters, however, as my health and weight have both improved, regardless. As for those strips, they remain are a waste of money and time for the purpose of low-carb health maintenance.

I have never bothered with the pee strips, but I do test my blood. I usually register at least 1.0 mmol. It does drop after eating, but the Jen goes back up.

I love fasting!! I mean, it’s not super fasting but I don’t eat anything til lunch time. My favorite part of this WOE is not being hungry. I have struggled with being constantly hungry most of my life.
I just find it weird that sometimes the strips can be dark pink then they are yellow. It’s annoying, but yes it shouldn’t matter and I should probably throw them away

I agree

Same here. I stop eating after dinner and don’t eat until noon for lunch.

Eating is a splendid sensual pleasure. Not eating helps me appreciate what a gift eating is. Unless ordered by a doctor I shall not fast. <looks accusingly at Dr. Fung… >

Might be a positive development, after all?

I guess this is a good thing yes. And I’m trying to ignore my scale for a long while. I didn’t “drop weight” like everyone does at the beginning of this diet so I’m searching for all the NSV I can find
