This new study found improved cardiac efficiency when drinking ketones. Should hold true for keto in general then I imagine.
Ketones improve cardiac efficiency
Yes ketones are super fuel for heart. This is one of my main reasons for the whoe WOE, I have a stent and heart failure.
I function much better in keto.
But why to take supplements when you can make ketones out of your extra body fat?
Iām at 36 hour fast now, here are my morning ketones. Glucose was 3,7 and I am full of energy. 8 AM and I did some crosstrainer and spinning already. Iāll go for a walk when the Sun comes up.
A very nice Ketone-high.
Ah, what? āDr. Perissiou added that the effect of ketones on heart health is a serendipitous finding:ā. This has been known for a long time, or at least that the heart likes ketones.
Also, I heard theories that the SGLT2i work because they increase ketones. Dom DāAgostino said this on one episode of The Metabolic Link.
I need this article. Well-timed. When I go to hospital for heart problems and chest pain I pack my own kit.
Emergency doctors will put in an IV line for resuscitation purposes. But they get tempted to put glucose in the Iv fluids. I make a request for magnesium sulphate and depending on my blood pH, maybe lactated Ringers solution. They donāt listen and there is no way anyone is up for administering IV ketones (bhb or acetoacetate) on a patientās request, even if they had them (or had the knowledge).
The best thing to do in hospital is fast to get into ketosis, if you have a heart or head injury, I reckon.
These days I pack a few tins of mackerel, salt, small shots of coconut (MCT) oil, stock/bullion cubes, concentrated beef bone broth, and a bottle of magnesium citrate. They go under my novel in my over night bag. I ask the nurse for plain water to drink. Then when they leave me alone I take my oral electrolytes and MCT and watch all the monitors settle down. I also have the ability to meditate, and wear noise blocking over ear headphones as the sounds of ER are all alarm calls, that do not help relaxation.
I like the way this is explained, especially the part about how to qualify as a āhealthy personā.
>Our bodies have two different fuel tanks ā glucose and free fatty acids. Healthy people use glucose because itās more efficient, but people with diabetes tend to use free fatty acids because their bodies are unable to break down glucose into energy due to insulin resistance.
Maybe you should try sneaking that in instead! Of course youād have to learn the ins and outs of IV sabotage ⦠I could totally see 20 year old me bucking the system that way. Alas, Iām no longer a kitten ā¦
Yeah Franko,spot on.
My keto has been destroyed TWICE in hospital. I was not in IV glucose but the food⦠it“s zero fat all sugar stuff.
I counted that I got my two week“s worth of sugar in one day. Bloated for many days, crazy constipation etc. The last time I was in, I had to wait for a few days before they took my gallbladder away, that hospital menu lead to me slipping away from keto altogether.
Carbs actually poison my brain āHa,yummy, I want more!ā So I did. And gained 20 kilos.
Next time IĀ“ll smuggle my own food in with a mini refrigerator. The hospital menu is just crazy, hardly any meat, bread, buns, porridge, cakes, jellies, fruits, juices, margarine, coffeeā¦
Hospitals and airlines. You wind up surviving on the little tubs of butter they intended for your carbs. (And then wondering if thatās really butter or just seed oil.)
