Ketone levels

#1

Hi there trying to do longish fast (5 days) have been going ketogenic gradually and last two days just have had some macadamia milk and exdogenous ketones (less than 100 calories)
Have a bit of a gut ache and quite hungry ketone levels are high (7)
Just wondering to push through or go back to eating is that ketone level getting too high?

No it’s not too high, i’ve been in the 7’s on a longer fast before. Not sure why you’re taking exogenous ketones while fasting though? Your body will be producing plenty of it’s own. As always with fasting, if you are not feeling great or feeling unwell then it’s ok to break your fast.

Also it’s easier and better to wait until you’re actually in ketosis before fasting, it is not necessary at first (neither are the exogenous ketones, unless you like peeing out your money).

Thanks for your thoughts, I was using ketones to help with hunger but I hadn’t taken any that day I had in days before. I had decided to stop taking them once I got going. Given I had go to 7s so quickly

Do you know where the safe limit is beyond 7?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

About 10, as I recall. Here’s the chart. As I understand it, there is no risk of ketoacidosis until you’re at 10 or 15.
