Great pics @siobhan

OK, I’ll bite… how is it pronounced correctly?

(Siobhan) #64

It’s Irish so:
si = sh
bh = v
so together it makes “shuh-vahn” phonetically :slight_smile:

Well…really it should be Siobhán (note the accent on the “á” making it a long vowel sound)

All my children have Gaelic names and they get just trashed everywhere they go. :smile: If we’re ever at the doc’s and they call out any one of the names, if there’s a long pause before the pronunciation attempt, we just stand and say that us!

My Siobhan gets called “Sio-bow-han” and “Sheffan” quite a bit. Surprisingly her nickname at school is Nahbois (Siobhan backwards) which she made up on her own. Then my Aoife gets “Oi-Fee”, “Ava” and “Eva” all the time and Roisin gets called “Raisin” or “Roy-sin” quite a bit too. We should have moved to Ireland and there would have been no issues. :grin:

You think Siobhan has spelling problems … Neeve spells her name Niamh

(Siobhan) #67

Yeah well no one is perfect :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I get called sigh-oh-bahn all the time, so much so that it has became my nickname at work.
And yes… neverending frustration over meeting people for the first time. It is a rare occasion where people know how to spell/pronounce it off the bat.

@siobhan I mentally have pronounced your name that way when I read the forum.

I love the pics. I wish I could have made it…
