You have every right not to contribute. And I have every right to judge people who never pay things forward. That’s the joy of freedom of thought!
Ketofest 2018: it might not happen!
You do have the right. But you also can use a little discretion and not say the first thing on your mind. If your idea to get people to contribute is to shame them, then I’m sorry to say most people don’t respond well to that kind of behavior. I come here to get good information and to not be judged. If I or anyone else wants to contribute that is our business. I consider your comments rude and if you don’t see an issue with what you have said, then you have some bigger issues. I won’t be responding to this thread anymore. I hope you have a wonderful day and hope your address at Ketofest goes well.
You come here to take information, not pay it forward. And I come here to judge you for such behaviour.
Freedom, again, is lovely, ain’t it?
Nick’s playing with you. He’s practically a communist. He used to pester me to consider publishing my book with a Creative Commons license so no one who needs the information will be deprived for lack of funds.
Lol, you’re a feisty one. I was thinking about the streaming pass, but you just talked me out of it with that rude & disrespectful response.
I was also considering the streaming pass since I can’t afford to go up north on a separate trip this year, but considering the way you have presented yourself in this thread, I’m not spending a dime of my hard earned money on anything you have to say. You obviously have a lot to learn about marketing. Too bad Ketofest will suffer for the sake of one loose cannon.
Amen. If this is the type of people we’re going to pay money to watch online, then I’ll pass.
More bacon bar for me and Nick.
But it’s still going to get funded and it’s going to be a blast. See you there! Or not.
But, Nick, you have no idea whether a person is doing their part to “pay it forward”. There are other options, like Patreon or occasional contributions or working to spread the word on social media or personal networks of friends and neighbors.
So in my mind, in a free society, everyone has the responsibility to inform themselves fully before they jump to making incendiary deleterious comments about other people. The word “civility” comes to mind.
Through my ongoing DietDoctor membership I watched the entire Low Carb Breckenridge 2018 Live Stream. So Live Stream should be a great option for those who cannot go to KetoFest.
You can choose to not watch Nick’s presentation; while still attending in person or by Live Stream. You’re hurting your own Keto education by not attending.
If you come in person, I’ll see you there!
KCKO
Just upgraded from a T-shirt to the Streaming Pass, looking forward to it, and maybe next year I’ll make it over from Aus.
I am doing a streaming pass so that I can help out the Dudes and show support. Can’t make it in person but I like the idea of participating in that way.
If you can’t afford it, share it on your social media platforms!
We don’t pay speakers to present, we give them a stipend to help with their costs, and we’ll pay for their accommodation - that’s the least we could do. Nick bought his own VIP ticket to Ketofest, and paid for his own flights … so have a lot of the speakers.
Ketofest is not a big medical conference or a software development conference funded by product sales - we are funded only by our customers. Everything we do is funded by our audience’s generosity. Everyone probably already knows that. This forum ispaid for by our patreons. The podcast is paid for by sales of Carl’s music, and donations (including our own).
Nick really wants this conference to happen, and was a little impolite in his eagerness. Sorry about that. If this KickStarter falls short then Carl and I plan to pay the difference from our own pockets. We also really really want this conference to happen.
And we’re grateful for everyone who shared the vision with us last year (that is why everyone got a T-Shirt that announced them as a co-founder of ketofest) and we are grateful this year for everyone who has done it again.
It’s going to be a grand party, and we want more people to share it with us.
EDIT: Oh also I wanted to thank everyone who can’t afford to join in, but share the information with their social networks anyway. You guys are the real MVPs.
I couldn’t be there last year but I got a t-shirt. The lectures also all end up on YouTube at some point after Ketofest so you can get to see them for free - just not live. There is a way for everyone to participate whether they can afford to spend any money (or travel) or not. Anyone who knows the Dudes and their podcasts will know what generous souls they are and that their motivation is to help as many people as they can. Chatting about it on social media is a big part of it and many of us who are going will be sharing snippets with you so you can feel a part of it. xxx
Good idea as for the social media sharing.
I would really love it if everyone who can and wants to contribute does, but for the people who can’t affrd it or don’t want to pledge for some reason or another that’s okay too.
Just talking about it, sharing it, that’s contributing too.
Ketofest is for everyone! Even for the people who can’t pledge, after the conference the talks will be up for everyone to see.
The great thing about ketofest, and the forums, is the great community (you guys) and ketofest is a celebration of that imo.
So to everyone who supports in some way - major thank you!
To everyone who doesn’t - I hope you enjoy all the pictures, and the talks that come out of it, and can maybe come some other year!
Regardless of whether you contribute (in whatever fashion) you’re still part of the community and we appreciate you just for that alone!
Note: I’ll be on the volunteer staff this year same as last year if that’s a COI
I just went over and donated on the kickstarter page! Hopefully we can get the word out to get to the goal! Even if you can’t do a full streaming pass, you can donate something! Be kind and open your wallets for the Keto Dudes! Keto On, people!
Well, this was an off-putting thread to read as a pretty new forum member. I am surprised at the tone of someone who is a speaker; I guess I expected it would be more professional. I just convinced an acquaintance to attend with me and now I’m worried I’m going to be embarrassed for recommending it.
