Ketofest 2018: it might not happen!

ketofest

(Tom) #21

Just upgraded from a T-shirt to the Streaming Pass, looking forward to it, and maybe next year I’ll make it over from Aus.

(Miss E) #22

Nick, do you get paid to speak at ketofest by chance?

(Adrienne P.) #23

I am doing a streaming pass so that I can help out the Dudes and show support. Can’t make it in person but I like the idea of participating in that way.
If you can’t afford it, share it on your social media platforms!

(Richard Morris) #24

We don’t pay speakers to present, we give them a stipend to help with their costs, and we’ll pay for their accommodation - that’s the least we could do. Nick bought his own VIP ticket to Ketofest, and paid for his own flights … so have a lot of the speakers.

Ketofest is not a big medical conference or a software development conference funded by product sales - we are funded only by our customers. Everything we do is funded by our audience’s generosity. Everyone probably already knows that. This forum ispaid for by our patreons. The podcast is paid for by sales of Carl’s music, and donations (including our own).

Nick really wants this conference to happen, and was a little impolite in his eagerness. Sorry about that. If this KickStarter falls short then Carl and I plan to pay the difference from our own pockets. We also really really want this conference to happen.

And we’re grateful for everyone who shared the vision with us last year (that is why everyone got a T-Shirt that announced them as a co-founder of ketofest) and we are grateful this year for everyone who has done it again.

It’s going to be a grand party, and we want more people to share it with us.

EDIT: Oh also I wanted to thank everyone who can’t afford to join in, but share the information with their social networks anyway. You guys are the real MVPs.

#25

I couldn’t be there last year but I got a t-shirt. The lectures also all end up on YouTube at some point after Ketofest so you can get to see them for free - just not live. There is a way for everyone to participate whether they can afford to spend any money (or travel) or not. Anyone who knows the Dudes and their podcasts will know what generous souls they are and that their motivation is to help as many people as they can. Chatting about it on social media is a big part of it and many of us who are going will be sharing snippets with you so you can feel a part of it. xxx

Good idea as for the social media sharing.
I would really love it if everyone who can and wants to contribute does, but for the people who can’t affrd it or don’t want to pledge for some reason or another that’s okay too.
Just talking about it, sharing it, that’s contributing too.
Ketofest is for everyone! Even for the people who can’t pledge, after the conference the talks will be up for everyone to see.
The great thing about ketofest, and the forums, is the great community (you guys) and ketofest is a celebration of that imo.

So to everyone who supports in some way - major thank you!
To everyone who doesn’t - I hope you enjoy all the pictures, and the talks that come out of it, and can maybe come some other year!

Regardless of whether you contribute (in whatever fashion) you’re still part of the community and we appreciate you just for that alone!

Note: I’ll be on the volunteer staff this year same as last year if that’s a COI

I just went over and donated on the kickstarter page! Hopefully we can get the word out to get to the goal! Even if you can’t do a full streaming pass, you can donate something! Be kind and open your wallets for the Keto Dudes! Keto On, people!

Well, this was an off-putting thread to read as a pretty new forum member. I am surprised at the tone of someone who is a speaker; I guess I expected it would be more professional. I just convinced an acquaintance to attend with me and now I’m worried I’m going to be embarrassed for recommending it.

Everyone has off days. I have got riled up many a time when I think someone is criticising my friends or something I believe passionately in. The red mist descends and I kick off. Sometimes I think I need a delay button! I have actually got a bit better over time but my foot in mouth disease rears up every now and then. My point is, well I am sure you get my rambling point. Ketfest is an amazing event with fabulous speakers, including Nick. In fact, he was my favourite last year. I look forward to meeting you and your friend - please make sure to come and say hi. I will also have free hugs on offer  x

(Richard Morris) #30

I’m so excited to finally meet Daisy … Srsly!

That’s what Ketofest is for me.

A chance to meet old friends for the first time.

#31

Right? I am so excited I will likely pee multiple pants before I get there

(Banting & Yudkin & Atkins & Eadeses & Cordain & Taubes & Volek & Naiman & Bikman ) #32

I’m in for a T-shirt. Good luck. And be excellent to one another.

(Raj Seth) #33

I not one of the 2 dudes, but have keto-verted 9 peeps so far. That’s how I pay it forward.

Also have 2 VIPs to KF2018 - but that’s bonus!!!

(tulsanurse1) #34

Going!!!

#35

See you there - look out for the crazy Brit hugging everyone!

(Nick) #36

And you’re a patreon. Rajseth, you really are paying it forward  You’ll get no snide rudeness from me, just a bow of respect

(Nick) #37

Yes. When people take but don’t pay it forward, it does actually press my buttons, perhaps rather harder than it should! I’m not pushing for things like ketofest to happen just because I want to have an opportunity to OD on low-carb grilled-cheese sandwiches; it’s because I think the most important thing we can globally at the moment is to help to cure the utterly avoidable epidemics all related to hyperinsulinaemia that are sweeping our planet. And grassroots solutions like ketofest as JUST the way you do that!

So, yes, I am going to be excited, pushy and sometimes a little rude

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #38

I think you will find there is nothing to be embarrassed by. Don’t let one off handed rude comment turn you off to an awesome experience. This group of ketoers is the best on the internet. I follow other forums, MFP and a couple of others. The Dudes are the smartest, kindest, and most fun of the lot.

I can’t make it to the festival, but I did order the streaming knowing eventually it will all be available. I just really felt it would be good to support their great efforts to get like minded folks together. Ketoers get a lot of crap from the SAD and Low fat supporters in the world. I also support them monthly, as you can see by my badge above.

I hope for everyone’s sake, the keto community supports this festival. Even if Carl and Richard are willing to make up the difference, they have already given us so much, it would be a grand thing if they didn’t have to dig deep to get this happening.

(Siobhan) #39

I’ve met and spent plenty of time with Nick in person (at low carb breck) and you will not be embarassed to have recommended going.
However, as is true with any community there will be people who have personality conflicts and bad days but it is easy enough to not talk to them or discuss your issues privately if needed.

If it is anything like last year, Ketofest this year will be fun, civil, drama free, and enjoyable for everyone!

(Crow T. Robot) #40

Hopefully your own
