Keto week 3, still struggling with energy levels

#1

Im 38f, 166lbs, I Crossfit 4-5 times a week, powerlift as time and body allow 3 times a week…for the first 2.5 weeks I was eating 1600 calories. I hit a wall hard after a 6 mile trail run and was not able to recover for an entire week after. I felt like I was in a severe caloric deficit, shaky, weak, and just felt terrible. After some recalculating Ive decided I should be eating 1800-2000 calories. High intensity training is fine up to about 15mins, and then I feel like hell. My husband has been feeling great on Keto but hes not exercising consistently. I have lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks, so I cant complain about that. BUT the energy issue while working out and after is a drag. What are your experiences with Keto and Crossfit?

That is a lot of high intensity exercise…you may need to slow down a bit while you are adapting, keep up with sodium, electrolytes and eat enough. I wouldn’t shy away from veggie based carbs, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. You’re still adapting really it might take you time to notice higher energy levels with that much high intensity training.

Unless you have a unusually low BMR, I think you’re still too hypocaloric. You workouts plus daily activity could easily be 1200 calories add a BMR of 1300 and you’re up to 2500. So if you’re only eating 1800, that’s a good recipe for feeling like crap.

Thank you for confirming what Im feeling. My husband has suggested that 2000 cals may be too much, I dont think it is at all. I have reduced my training, mostly because my body is demanding that I do. I appreciate your feedback. Im gonna go eat

Rule #1 of keto is listen to your body.

If you feel hungry, eat.
