Keto take 2

#1

Hi from the Great White North! I started Keto in January 2018 to appease a family member who kept going on and on about it as a weight loss tool. Soon enough I felt the benefits and lost 30lbs in 5 months, then went on a keto break in the summer. I had intended to just pause while on vacation, but one thing led to another and boom! hello 10lbs added back on. sigh

In October I decided to try again after Canadian Thanksgiving. It’s been a rocky start, but I have lost the summer weight and discovered the 2KetoDudes podcast. I look forward to future ketogains and participating in these forums!

Welcome to the forums from the not-so-white South Eastern Australia @Canadianmaple

Welcome. I find it much easier and enjoyable to do Keto when I am around others on the same journey. Hope you find the same here.

Yes, those vacation/holiday pauses can wreak havoc–as I found out some years ago. Good for you for getting back on plan! Congratulations on losing the summer weight.

I’m in Canada too, but on the not so White (but still Great) west coast.

Glad to know someone’s been in the same(ish) boat! I started my keto first in Jan 2018 and lost 7 kgs…thats around 15 lbs…but as Pa was hospitalized I just couldn’t keep up. Thought I was just taking a break…and nearly 8 Mo later have started again with added wt. Been diagnosed with venous incompetence and on my way to arterial insufficiency… this time I’m going not for a rigid routine like last time…(of farmer’s cheese ( paneer) 100 g for lunch then same for dinner and allowed veges 75 g plus (1 small tomato and onion) 4 TSP butter 4 cheese cubes and 2 TSP coconut oil and one bp coffee… prescribed by dietitian and with strict instructions not to vary schedule) I think that too was my undoing… that’s not a WOL. that’s torture after the first 10 days. @That_Fat_Guy helped me see theres a lot of alternative sustainable recipes (even for vegetarians) out there.( Thanks ) this is just the first week back. Hopinf to stick to it this time! This is so much easier with the support from this forum family! Specifically coz being a foodie Indian family everyone else around me is still doing delicious festival foods that still sing out to me like a damn siren!

I’m also feeling hopeful, having found this amazing resource. Happy Diwali, if you are celebrating! Have you discovered Keto Indian recipes? I’ve been sad to give up a lot of South East Asian cuisine.

Happy Durga Puja, Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaidooj ,Annakoot to you too! Just to elaborate on the extended festival season here! Also we have had a Bunch of witches and werewolves over to feed for halloween this year too ( new for me in India).The holiday season started early October & will continue till the New Year… With Hannukah And Eid around the corner as well. Lol as they say religion is private but festivals are for Everyone! …and already preps have started for Christmas. All thats great but this translates for a messed up metabolism in a non keto sensitised place like mine.
Have searched for and found ** “headbangers kitchen” ** https://headbangerskitchen.com/
many indian recipes that I was so craving (including naan bread) are there. ( And he’s got some great vegetarian, eggless and even vegan recipes in there too) still looking for that cheesecake recipe though

Welcome!
I did keto for weight loss 7 years ago, now back for health benefits.
The podcast and forum is such a wonderful thing! Makes things much easier!

Welcome! The podcast is such a great tool. I wish I would’ve known about it when I started keto in July 2017. I wasn’t morbidly obese by any means but have always been really skinny. My metabolism decided to slow down and I was overeating foods that were being converted into fat storage. Anyways lost 30lbs in 11 weeks and have decided to come back for long term health benefits. I thank the dudes and the forum participants. Good stuff.

The 10 pounds you regained was mostly, if not all, glycogen not fat. Adding carbs causes glycogen storage initially, before adding fat. Even then you have to eat an excess of carbs to cause chronic glycogen overcompensation that causes fat regain. That’s why it dropped off fairly quickly.

In reality, you were in Maintenance rather than being lipogenic. The main positive is you gave your body time to adjust metabolically from your initial fat loss. You"ll probably see some good progress for the next few months because of it.

I didn’t realize there were so many festivals to celebrate!
Thanks for the link to headbangers kitchen- I love love love butter chicken and was sad to give it up for keto. Now I am so going to cook the Keto Paneer Makhanwala dish that I found there!

So excited!

I thought it might have been that, but it was still discouraging.

I’m not sure I understand what you are explaining here. Could you please elaborate? Why is it a positive?

Well everyday’s a festival and no day is, depends on the person  and for a hardcore foodie like me …well u know… I’d probably be happy celebrating everyone’s half birthday also
and don’t worry about the setback, just b glad u made up for that!
