So im 3 months in with many reasons to stay positive, I’m down about 14 lbs, started at 265 46yo. my belt has closed about 5-6 holes and clothes feel great on me. energy and sleep that i bragged about in my early posts is still great, I’m rarely ever hungry, i could go on and on but you get the point I love this WOE… so whats my question? well 3 wks ago my wife and i went away for the weekend for an anniversary, I had several drinks with sugary mixers, and 2 meals with not so keto friendly foods, now its been 3 full weeks of hardcore keto and i can not get my keto strips to change colors to save my life?? I’ve fasted, i still count macros, the whole nine yards. Can someone talk me off the ledge please I’m stressing over this more than i should be!!
Keto strips / stall
Pee strips are notorious for not showing waste ketones (that’s what they are measuring) if you are using your ketones to run your body. I imagine that is what is happening here… you were out for a brief period but are now back in and using all your ketones so none to pee out… KCKO.
You have been eating Keto for 3 months which means you are likely fat adapted.
The pee strips show WASTED ketones, not the ones your body are using effectively.
If you have low to no readings, then your body is using those ketones that you are making.
Generally the strips become useless at this stage. You may want to invest in a blood meter but ultimately there really is no need.
Pee strips should only be used to check if you are in or out of ketosis. They are famously inaccurate as they only test the EXCESS of ONE type of ketone. If you want an accurate measurement buy a blood ketone tester and some strips for that.
The above advice or better yet also get a blood glucose meter and determine your GKI …your Glucose to Ketone Index
