Keto newbies. Usually this time of the year we have a huge influx of keto newbies. I’m just not seeing it this year. Has the shine worn off? Not in the news as much.? Just something I’ve noticed
Keto newbies
I wonder if it’s not simply that everyone has major worries on their mind?
Not a newbie, but a lostie … fell off over the summer, but I am back. I was keto for almost 18 months so not as long as others, but long enough to learn a LOT. Just have to remember it all now! Ha!
I havw noticed all the weight loss programmes have been back on TV. One the other night had a celeb trying Keto and didn’t give it a good review and it wasn’t given a good review on another programme either, advocating that it is a short term diet! These were repeats of programmes aired last new year and very possibly the year before also.
They all talk about massive headaches etc which i certainly didn’t get and made a real point of the brain fog and fatigue. They were only trying it out for a max of 3 to 4 weeks so hardly time to let the process begin to work and settle in to a woe.
All very negative. I am just glad i found this forum and all the good experienced peeps on here. Knowing some of you have been eating this way for many years certainly clears any doubts about Keto/Carnivore .
Most bad reviews end with “Keto is not sustainable”. Funny thing is I have been hearing this for years now.
When I hear this stuff now, I just roll my eyes. The people that are living keto and the real experts who have researched it extensively know the truth. It’s just sad that these naysayers may be preventing a lot of people from finding keto.
Luckily, I didn’t get keto flu when I started. If I had, I don’t think it would have dissuaded me. I couldn’t believe we could eat so well and still lose weight, plus I immediately experienced an end to so many aches and pains due to inflammation that had plagued me for years.
I didn’t get the keto flu, either, when I started, but that was because I had watched a few lectures by Dr. Phinney at that point and knew to increase my salt intake. It worked!
I also never had any keto flu.
I eased in to it slowly, not on purpose, just had no idea what i was doing and did a lot of things wrong.
Never had it either. Best explanation I can think of is that I was used to eating one meal a day, beforehand.
On the bright side, if the many diet dilettantes give up on keto in the first couple of weeks because they have a headache they won’t be around 6 months later complaining that keto is not sustainable because, you know, carbs. I think keto is doing OK. Folks will find it. I’d rather it gradually overtake conventional dietary advice as the science becomes more widespread than be a fad millions don’t understand, can’t adapt to and abandon as soon as something easier comes along. I agree it would be nice if more doctors and nutritionists had a clue. Any time anyone asks me, I tell them how I eat and if they seem interested try to explain the nutritional rationale that supports it.
For what it’s worth, I’ll add that I never had carb withdrawal nor did I miss the carb-loaded foods I left behind.
I suppose we should be happy that not everyone wants this woe because the price of meat would sky rocket!
My take on Keto is that if you don’t give it six months of LCHF you haven’t tried keto yet. It took that long to get dialed in. Never had “flu” but I eased into it. Cut back on bread and pasta. for 10 days, eliminated after that and increased salt. Years ago now.
I wish I could say the same. Someone left a large birthday cake lying around the house, and it’s been very difficult to stay away from.
The only carbs I miss is fresh fruit.
Sometimes I eat a little bit of the lower carb types
I hope you’re right. I just feel really bad for people. Seems like such a small sacrifice - to me, anyway - for what and how we can eat. Still, I tell people about it, who want to know or who are obese, and their eyes just glaze over. I guess they’re just not there yet. When I found keto, I was soul sick and more than ready. It was a deliverance to me, in spite of what I “gave up.” Minuscule in comparison.
Girlll, honest to God, I got huge chicken drumsticks for $.99/lb. today! Having them for dinner with pork steaks tonight. So succulent and meaty in the air fryer. “Wings,” on the other hand, were like $2.89/lb. Still going to get the traditional wings, because I’m craving them, but the drumsticks are so much meatier. There are some cuts of meat that are still so inexpensive (pork - hope they don’t discover that).
I can’t understand why wings would be more expensive than drumsticks? Perhaps its because you need more of them to make up a lb???
Too fiddly for my liking
