Wings can be made into barbecued or buffalo chicken wings and they’re a very hot ticket item for a football game watching. I like them a bit better especially with lemon pepper, because of the additional fatty skin you can get with a chicken wing. Higher percentage of skin to meat.
Keto newbies
What kills me is that wings are all bone, too, so that extra price is costing even more than would appear.
Fortunately, thighs with the skin on are also 99 cents/pound, which is a much better deal.
Probably scared off by so many of the “keto gurus” suddenly becoming infectious diseases experts/COVID deniers in order to keep having people worship at their feet.
I think wings are more expensive because they are so hugely popular. I live close to Buffalo, NY, and Buffalo wings are a staple in bars, pizza places and restaurants around here. There is more skin on wings vs. meat, and that skin gets crispy and delicious when fried. Drumsticks, on the other hand, are more of a meal protein that an appetizer or a snack. People having football parties usually serve wings, but drumsticks just do not have the same appeal for a party. I’m still going to buy some wings for the air fryer because I am craving them.
It’s a huge sacrifice for many. It was unacceptable even for me first, I felt unwell so I quit right away (it’s not like I had noticeable health problems to solve. ketosis didn’t give me much anyway) but a few years on low-carb made keto possible for a while… Never for long. Keto was kind of hard as long as I ate vegetables. It’s way easier now but I want and have my off times. It’s very individual. Sometimes keto is a bad idea. Or huge sacrifice for a short time, smaller forever and great benefits. We have different attitudes. I don’t do hard things if it’s about my eating. I can’t, actually. UNLESS my health is in big danger but it would make following some strict woe instantly way easier. Health is a huge motivator for me. And not at all for others, apparently… Compulsions, addictions, weaknesses… People PAY to harm their health, what can we expect from them?
I would do keto or even carnivore every day if it would be super important. But if I can get away with eating whatever I fancy… And I have some control on what I fancy, that is the best. Hedonism is useful. I put effort into enjoying the things good for me… I have enough wriggle room to make it happen and my tastes aren’t so bad to begin with. I love good food, I just loved “bad food” too.
It’s WAY cheaper here (but our currency is different :P). Chicken thigh, the best part of the chicken if you ask me if dirt cheap. Unless if it’s some fancy raised chicken (still not home-raised or something but better, allegedly) because it’s a few times more expensive.
I don’t understand the price of wings. It’s more expensive than thigh (still cheaper than your drumsticks were) and it’s mostly skin and bone, looks cat food to me. Why is it popular? It has a little meat but thigh is zillion times better I never know what to do with wings when I buy a whole bird. I roast it, it can go into stews, edible but I prefer any other part with some meat (except breasts).
But my meat eating history is still tiny, I probably will learn a lot in the future. Still, I doubt I ever will love wings.
Too bad fowl can’t satiate me so pork is my best choice. And it is on sale all the time, even the parts I prefer because they have the right fattiness for me… Even farm pork isn’t expensive. Beef is expensive here.
Edit: Thigh and drumstick has the same price here. And both are called thighs and it’s anatomically very wrong…
But price wise, the thigh has the same skin and more meat, isn’t it? Not here where wings are only a tad pricier but where they are much pricier?
And not everyone likes skin. If I look at supermarket advertisement papers (IDK what are they called in English), it seems people are into skinless stuff… Of course, we know many people are afraid from fats but those items appear often and people seemingly pay extra for leaner stuff…
On the other hand, we have pricy meats with a huge fat content, I wouldn’t want buy those either, I can buy fat way cheaper and I want my meat…
And I don’t know if I do it wrong or not but the last part of the wings, that’s total cat food. I roast the wings and the smallest part is rock hard dry skin and bones…
Or… looking at the pictures… Do you buy wings without that last part, maybe even “wing drumsticks”? That is something else. But the whole wing has so little meat!
Lockdown and illness had a huge effect on my eating and exercise but getting back into it again now. Have to remember to take it steady.
I’m new:) it’s been about a month and I’m not seeing any weight loss or inches down, but I’m feeling a lot less bloated and not really hungry…I do want to lose weight so I’m hoping my body adjusts soon!!
Welcome (back), @Kimmadip2300 and @Ketogran ! Good luck reaching your keto goals.
It sometimes takes women a few weeks for their hormones to re-regulate themselves, before the fat starts coming off. Don’t make the mistake of cutting calories; instead, eat enough to satisfy your hunger. It sounds counter-intuitive, but there’s valid science behind it.
@Kimmadip2300 Keto is a process of metabolic normalization. Eating SAD for years/decades causes damage. The only questions are how much and how long will it take to fix? For those trying to shed excess fat, one of the happy byproducts of metabolic normalization is stored fat normalization. In other words, over time you will trend towards ‘your normal’ weight/fat%. But it’s not a linear process and often, especially at the beginning, other stuff takes precedence over shedding excess fat. Keep carb consumption sub-20 grams per day to remain consistently in ketosis - and good stuff will happen. It just may not be as fast or in the precise manner you wished or imagined.
