Keto newbie and Crossfit

(Kelly) #1

Hello! I am in week four of keto and feeling pretty good overall. My macro percentages are 70, 25, and 5% and I track them daily. Down 13 lbs. Just wondering if anyone on here does keto and Crossfit and what your performance experience was like as you went through this process? Thanks!

Hi Kelly! I have been doing Crossfit while eating the Keto diet since July of last year. I have maybe lost a total of 15/20 lbs on the scale but have lost a ton of fat and gained a lot of muscle! My coach is trying to get me to switch to the Zone diet and my response is that my PR’s seem to go up close to everyweek. My coach was even shocked that I do a lot of the workouts in a fasted state and tend to be in the upper echalon of the class to those eating a Zone diet. Personally I feel great and am seeing physical improvements.

The zone diet is their thing. I used to do crossfit on keto, i did just fine. I had to drop it after 12 knee surgeries. I wore them out racing bicycles otherwise i would still be at the box. Nothing out there like it

Im only 4 days in and I have taken a week off Crossfit to allow my body to get used to the changes. I feel SO weak!
I only started Crossfit in February so I’ve only been doing it for 8 weeks.
I was doing CICO and my body composition was not changing at ALL.

How are you finding it? Do you think it was a good idea to take a week off?

I’m not sure. I had a few days the second week where I thought I was going to pass out, literally, but tbat has subsided. I just feel like I am tanking out faster than I used to. I do go in the morning so am in a fasted state, but that was true before keto too.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for 9 years, and doing it fat-adapted for about 6 months. I think it just takes a little time to get used to. I’ve been playing around with the targeted ketogenic diet (TKD). Trying about 10g of carbs right before a workout. I can tell a difference, but it’s slight. If you’re not competing or trying to hit some certain goal in the gym, then the advantages of using a TKD are minimal I think.

I just started Keto after doing. The healthy steps nutrition 4 week plan. I have been doing CrossFit inly about two months. I am also training for an ultra marathon. I am just wondering if i should incorporate a few more carbs before my workouts or just use Exogenous ketones and BpC before my CrossFit workouts in the am, i run in the afternoon. I am also a nursing student so i am looking for increased mental performance. O

I don’t think you must take a week off. I just run and my post keto runs sucked for three months. I had to walk periodically and had my doubts about my keto choice. Then like a switch I had my energy back and can run fasted now. I was doing <50 g a day so it may have taking longer to get adapted.

Wow guys, lol, this thread was over 7 months ago.
I quit crossfit and never looked back, and lost 18kg without any exercise at all.

It’s funny because I still see the crossfitters as I live next door, and they must all eat like shit because they all look exactly the same as they did this time last year, no real weight loss or body composition changes. Interesting hey.
Can’t out-train a bad diet!

I prefer to just lift weights now on the stronglift program.
