Keto lollipop?

(saud) #1

The package says its 15 grams of carbs which is high for Keto. But the carbs all come from sugar alcohols. Does this mean its zero carb? Because I want to eat these everyday without counting its carbs.

Ingredients: Isomalt Syrup, Erythritol, Xylitol, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, Beetroot Juice, Stevia, Turmeric, Grape Extract, Annatto Extract, and Color Added. All Colors are Derived From Natural Plant Based Sources.

Here is the product:

I really would avoid these at all costs

“Isomalt Syrup”

Do some research…

(saud) #3

But I did search and its very keto friendly. I just want to know if I should count the sugar alcohol carbs on no?

(Polly) #4

I agree with @Shortstuff Allie. I wouldn’t consider eating such products because I believe in eating real food and only real food for optimal health.

If you think this will do you no harm then that is a matter for you but I wouldn’t go there.

(saud) #5

But my question wasnt about weather its okay to eat processed Keto food so…

#6

Some people have a sort of rule whereby they count all carbs in packaged or processed food but net carbs in unprocessed food. It all depends on what works for you I guess.

#7

Xylitol is definitely has digestible carbs but many people count erythritol too. I don’t know what is isomalt syrup.
(I definitely wouldn’t eat such type of food every day but it’s me, now.)

OK go ahead… :nauseated_face::poop::joy:

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #9

The “rule” (not that there are rules for keto) as it was explained to me is that fibre can be subtracted entirely from total carbs, but that sugar alcohols should be counted at half the stated weight.

I know it sounds as though people are not answering the question you are asking, but you might want to reconsider and take a fresh look at the responses.

Remember, however, that you are always free to do whatever you want. Our opinions are based on our own experiences. You do you.

I’d eat them, but keep an eye out and see if there’s any problems. Since there’s Xylitol in there go easy at first. It’s probably not enough to matter but it can end with you on the toilet. If all 15g are from sugar alcohols I don’t worry about it, some people nitpick ingredients. I typically don’t.

Please remember that sugar alcohols can cause serious :poop::poop::poop::poop: issues in most people.

I would not eat those, but if you can tolerate a little bit of sugar alcohols, it is your body, do what you like.

Good points.

As you see, we are all over the place on that answer. Basically a carb is a carb. You don’t HAVE to count sugar alcohols. Many don’t. I think the only thing you have to watch for is if they make you start craving sugar. If not, and you can have them as treat, go forth and prosper on those lollipops. But if you begin having cravings, you’ll know why. And still, it is up to you. If you can live with cravings and stay on course, more power to you. I have low self-control. So a major part of keto that I enjoy is the zero cravings.

The only sugar alcohol that contributes any “nutrition” is the xylitol. All three of those sweeteners can cause diarrhea. Just be careful. Some people are more sensitive to the laxative effects than others. Over the years I’ve become quite sensitive, and even a single spoonful of erythritol will have me constantly running to the bathroom for the better part of the day.

Some of these “keto” foods hitting the marketplace are hugely ambiguous! If it looks too good to be true…
